Director of Products

Boise, United States Idaho Scientific Full time
Job DescriptionJob Description

Director of FPGA and ASIC IP Products

Life is Short. Solve Hard Problems with Cool People.

Idaho Scientific is the Goldilocks of the spirit and growth of a startup, with a financial footing and safety of a stable corporation. The perks of working at Idaho Scientific include all the benefits you’d expect from an employer who prioritizes a balanced human experience:

  • Competitive Pay

  • Flexible Work Schedule

  • Health Benefits and Insurance

  • Free retirement fund contributions

  • Bonus Program

  • Generous Paid Time Off Policy

Solve the Problem, Not the Symptom.

The U.S. cannot afford to be reactive with national security. Traditional system security approaches do not scale, deter, or defended against motivated and sophisticated adversaries from undermining our military weapons systems. Proactive solutions to embedded security resolve the root of the vulnerability. The root of problem resides in flaws latent in processor, operating system, and software design.

Idaho Scientific designs and deploys secure system solutions through novel CPU design, crypto cores, purpose-built system-on-a-chip architectures and hardened operating systems.  Our solutions are the foundation for how military systems will remain safe and secure in the conflicts of the future.  We need smart people like you to join us in solving hard problems that matter.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Lead and grow a team:

  • This is a strategic position that reports directly to the Company President and currently has 20+ direct reports in Boise and Salt Lake City

  • Recruit, mentor and facilitate a team of engineers and support staff, as needed.

  • Lead technology and product development for the next generation of FPGA and ASIC security IP:  Idaho Scientific has an existing product line of embedded security IP (primarily the “Immunity” product line) meant to secure single board computers, primarily consisting of x86 processors and Xilinx FPGAs.  In this role you will:

  • Be familiar with state of the art technology in embedded security IP and identify gaps in native security features from major FPGA vendors

  • Create and maintain a technical roadmap and release schedule for security IP product updates.

  • Manage high-quality and timely execution for existing and future contracts related to the existing Idaho Scientific IP products.

  • Oversee all aspects of the product life cycle - including system design, development, verification, delivery, and support.

  • Manage program execution to cost and schedule.

  • Report relevant program activities to Company leadership with an emphasis on risks and opportunities.

  • Support sales/marketing with technical support for new product sales of existing IP products

  • Initially, candidate will be the primary technical support and thus able to ask the right questions to understand customer need and provide accurate and timely technical responses.  In time, the Director will be hire, organize and manage additional Field Application Engineers (FAEs) and other technical sales support staff.

  • Support strategic business development efforts for new IP:

  • Support Idaho Scientific marketing and business development in developing IP product strategies for review and concurrence from Company leadership.

  • Identify, propose, capture, and shepherd the right work with current and adjacent Customers to achieve the company’s strategic vision for the Immunity product line and other embedded security IP.

  • Lead new opportunities and be the primary author and editor for new proposals

  • Identify and engage as appropriate with security IP and adjacent industry consortiums and working groups

  • Input to company strategic plan:

  • Provide feedback with other Directors to identify common Customer needs and coordinate with Company leadership to provide ideas for R&D and new Products to address those market needs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • US Citizenship (no exceptions)

  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in IP development (no exceptions)

  • More than 10 years of proven past performance in FPGA or ASIC security IP (no exceptions)

  • Proven work experience bringing FPGA or ASIC IP to market (no exceptions)

  • Ability to hold an active US SECRET security clearance

  • Knowledge of low-level computer architecture (CPUs, Memory Management Units, IOMMU, serial buses)

  • Fluent in VHDL or Verilog hardware description languages

  • Fluent in embedded C or C++ programming

  • Experience developing test bench simulations

  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado and/or Altera Quartus software

  • Experience applying principles of cyber security to operational technology and embedded systems

  • Experience reverse engineering hardware and software

  • Strong, creative problem-solving skills and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done

  • Ability to clearly capture complex technical concepts in writing for both technical and general audiences

  • Must be highly creative and have experience interfacing directly with Government and/or DIB customers

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Working knowledge of applied cryptography

  • In-depth understanding of microprocessor market and processor architectures

  • Experience with software assurance, system integrity, trust strategies, supply chain exploitation methods and countermeasures and/or general vulnerability analysis

Location

  • The preferred work location is at Idaho Scientific headquarters in Boise, Idaho.
