The Highlands Ranch Metro District is now accepting applications for part-time Enrichment Instructors for our Senior Services program. Instructors provide skilled instruction and supervision for older adult expressive and performing arts and crafts classes offered in the community and at the Highlands Ranch Senior Center. Ideal candidates must have experience teaching expressive or performing arts and crafts classes and proficiency in various art mediums, such as painting, drawing, or crafts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe list of essential duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive. They establish a flexible, functional base from which the incumbent operates. They may also be modified with additions, deletions, or changes required to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- Develop and plan art curriculum suitable for senior learners, with careful consideration of their varying skill levels and interests.
- Provide hands-on instruction, teaching a variety of expressive and performing art techniques depending on qualifications.
- Tailor instruction to accommodate the physical and cognitive abilities of senior learners, ensuring an inclusive and accessible learning environment.
- Manage and organize supplies, ensuring they are readily available for class use and notifying the Fitness and Enrichment Coordinator of supply needs.
- Follow class format and fidelity as set by Fitness and Enrichment Coordinator.
- Welcome and encourage all participants to follow at their own pace.
- Assist in marketing and promoting the classes to attract new participants, both within the senior center and the wider community.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and class progress.
- Be familiar with safety protocols and emergency procedures within the senior center and classroom to ensure the well-being of the participants.
- Report all concerns to Fitness and Enrichment Coordinator.
- Alert Fitness and Enrichment Coordinator immediately if unable to teach so class can be canceled and registrants notified.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings. When requested, attend special events to promote the enrichment programs.
- Complete any necessary reports and forms, i.e., Accident Reports, Health Forms, Attendance Records, Supply Requests, etc.
- Be responsible and punctual.
- Set-up and break-down materials and equipment used for instruction as needed.
- Perform first aid as required, depending on training and certification.
- Comply with District and department rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
Works under the general supervision of the Fitness and Enrichment Coordinator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISEDSupervises participants of the programs they are scheduled to instruct.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- At least one year of experience teaching expressive or performing arts and crafts classes to older adults is preferred.
- Proficiency in various art mediums, such as painting, drawing, or crafts.
- Innovative thinking to develop engaging activities.
Knowledge of various art mediums and how to apply them in teaching expressive and performing arts and crafts classes. Works in an indoor setting where incumbent may be subject to noise and distraction; requires extended periods of speaking in a loud voice for up to an hour at a time; requires public relations skills in handling concerns and complaints; entails working closely with others and working with little supervision; and requires excellent organizational/time management skills. Must be personable; innovative and creative; flexible and versatile; team-oriented; have strong human relations and communication skills; and be customer service oriented. Administers first aid and CPR in the event of an accident.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDEquipment for projecting vocal instructions, music, and art materials.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequires muscular exertion and/or physical strain and frequent concentration on an activity where the flow of work is intermittent; requires use of hands to fingers, ability to reach, climb, bend, stoop, crouch and occasionally lift objects weighing less than 10 lbs.
