Job Summary:

The Instructor is responsible to guide individuals in independent living, healthy living, career development, and social skills. Create tailored programs and one-on-one sessions, fostering essential life skills. Collaboration with a team and partners ensures comprehensive support while contributing to an inclusive environment for growth and independence. The instructor's contributions to program development and advocacy empower individuals to thrive and participate fully in the community.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement curriculum for classroom instruction, small groups, and one-on-one sessions in one or more areas: independent living, healthy living, career development, and social skills.
  • Assess each participant's unique needs and goals and tailor interventions, accordingly, considering factors such as disability type, age, and level of independence.
  • Empower participants to develop essential life skills, including self-care, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making, through personalized coaching and guidance.
  • Participate in program development, evaluation, and improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and effectiveness.
  • Ensure clear guidelines, expectations, and procedures when working with participants in a classroom, community, or 1:1 setting.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including individuals served, advisors, job developers, therapists, and families, to ensure coordinated and holistic support for participants.
  • Collaborate with community partners, such as social workers, employers, and educational institutions, to facilitate participants' access to resources and opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date participant records, progress notes, and service plans in compliance with MICC policies.
  • Complete annual program trainings and certifications, such as medication oversight, CPR, mandated reporting, bloodborne pathogen training, etc.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities within the community, promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and equal opportunities.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in schedule and responsibilities to provide support and coverage across various aspects of program delivery as needed.
  • Stay abreast of developments in disability services, attend relevant training and professional development opportunities, and apply new knowledge and best practices in service delivery.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other departmental positions.

Paid Time Off (PTO):

MICC offers a generous amount of Paid Time Off (PTO):

  • 176 hours / 22 days (prorated upon start date) of paid vacation time
  • 80 hours / 10 days (accrued at 3.33 hours per pay period) of paid sick time
  • 80 hours / 10 days (holiday schedule available upon request) of paid holidays
  • 8 hours / 1 day for floating holiday
Requirements:

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, Health Coaching, Psychology, or a related field is required.
  • At least one year of working with neurodivergent adults is preferred.
  • Nontraditional instruction, teaching or education is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Ability to drive small vehicles and 15-passenger vans.
