Department: Animas Internal Medicine


Job Summary:

Responsible for timely and accurate registration of Animas Internal Medicine patients. Performs pre-service data requirements efficiently and accurately by entering the required information into patient electronic health record. Uses good customer skills when conversing with patients, both face-to-face and over the phone and presents a professional image of Animas Internal Medicine. Provides and explains all required documents to the patient and answers any questions. Maintains exceptional customer service while answering, directing, and acting as a patient advocate over the phone and in person.  Informs of, and/or collects pre-payments from patients. Uses initiative to maintain the registrar’s administrative responsibilities, and to solve registration-related problems. Works collaboratively with other support staff to ensure the accuracy of patient records. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills. Strong computer literacy skills to be utilized with various registration, insurance eligibility and patient record reconciliation.  

 

Reports to:   Animas Internal Medicine Team Lead

 

Essential Job Functions:


  1. Greets patients, families, and guests promptly and courteously as the patient arrives at the hospital
  2. Accurately registers all patients including collection of insurance information, demographics, and full legal names.
  3. Collects co-pays and or appropriate patient balances according to established guidelines and policies. Accurately notes appropriate details in patient accounts at time of service.
  4. Monitor patient wait times both before and after registration keeping patients notified of any delays and waits.
  5. Answers the telephone, promptly and courteously following all protocols set up with transferring calls to departments.
  6. Consistently demonstrates a positive attitude. Fosters teamwork by offering assistance to others. Acknowledges and responds tactfully to all requests. Shows consideration in interaction with patients, family, and other healthcare team members by demonstrating listening skills and cooperation. Communicates and interacts with others in a professional, responsible, cooperative, and positive manner at all times.
  7. Reviews all patient forms for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate signatures.
  8. Maintain confidentiality in matters pertaining to patients, physicians, staff, and hospital.
  9. Practices caution and uses good judgment in relaying messages and giving information to patients, families, and visitors.
  10. Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
    • Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
    • Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel, and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
    • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment. Adheres to the hospital’s Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct in the HR Manual.
    • Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.
    • Follows through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command.

 

 11. Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years experience in a healthcare environment, medical terminology, ability to multitask and prioritization skills preferred.

Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, and utilization of website search engines.

 

Certification, Licensure:  CPR

 

Physical Requirements

This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to ten (10)+ pounds.  Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, handling, and balancing 5 or more hours per day.  Sensory and communicative activities including hearing seeing, and

speaking to be able to carry out essential job functions.


Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts.  Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.


ASH IMMUNIZATIONS AND VACCINATIONS REQUIREMENTS Aligns with CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) for Healthcare Personnel


Hepatitis B- Lab evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B or three doses Hep B vaccine at appropriate intervals

Influenza- mandatory from November 1st through March 31st each year

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella - Lab evidence of immunity to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella or 2 doses of MMR Vaccination

Varicella (chickenpox) - Lab evidence of immunity to Varicella or 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine

Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) - documented proof of immunization

Tuberculosis Screening- All new-hires undergo a two-step TB skin test
