Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Director of Building Services, Facilities Maintenance performs a variety of cleaning tasks and other related maintenance tasks in accordance with the cleaning standards of the Museum. Areas of responsibility may include the building’s interior, exterior, and grounds.
Work Schedule: Sunday – Thursday, onsite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for daily cleaning including dusting, mopping, stripping/waxing, vacuuming (of rugs), high dusting (removal of fingermarks), and general cleaning tasks (drinking fountains and coolers) including glass doors, mirrors, bathrooms, removal of trash and replacing light bulbs (and/or fixtures).
- Provides setups for special programs, meetings, special events, building rentals and other functions on Museum property.
- Moves office furniture or other museum fixtures.
- Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and provides supplies to Museum and office areas with miscellaneous supplies as necessary.
- Informs supervisor of maintenance problems observed in course of work.
- May be required to drive Museum vehicles.
- Use of a ladder or operation of a personal hydraulic lift to reach elevated locations.
- May be required to perform security functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum 3 years institutional cleaning/maintenance experience.
- High school diploma or GED with prior maintenance experience preferred.
- May be required to work Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings as part of regular shift (and evenings).
- Must be available to work in excess of 40 hours per week when required by the Museum.
- Ability to learn minor building maintenance and repair procedures; follow directions; learn specific methods of cleaning facilities associated with museum objects; exercise care and good judgment in the performance of assigned duties.
- The ability to receive, communicate and understand information and instructions.
- Must be able to bend, reach above shoulder level, ascend/descend stairs, and move about.
- Must be able to access and operate equipment required to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must be able to lift items with a minimum weight of fifty (50) lbs.
- Valid NJ driver’s license preferred.
Rate: $18.18 hourly rate; includes a comprehensive organization-sponsored benefits package including medical plan, dental plan, vision, life insurance, Pension, 401K retirement, and generous paid time off.
