St. Anne's-Belfield School seeks one or more theatre arts educators to fill the following roles: director for an upper school one-act or full-length play, director for an upper school winter musical, and part-time upper school theatre arts classroom teacher. A description of each role follows. We aspire to hire one individual for all three roles in the form of a Director of Theatre Arts but are open to considering more than one part-time individual to meet the needs of our program. The ideal candidate for the Director of Theatre Arts role will be one who seeks to stretch and support students with a student-centered approach, both in the classroom and on the stage; who collaborates effectively with the members of the upper school Performing Arts Department and the upper school faculty as a whole; who is excited to work in our state-of-the-art Grisham Hall, completed in January of 2015; and who seeks the opportunity to lead and reinvent an established and successful Theatre Arts Program. Experience teaching high school-aged students and a master's degree in theatre or secondary theatre arts education is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Knowledge of overall operation of a school theatre program
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Three years teaching and/or theatre directing/technical experience

Part-Time Theatre Arts Educator

Teach 4 classes in theatre arts education. Classes are 90-minutes long and meet 4 times in a regular 5-day school week.

Existing courses in which students are enrolled include:

  • Theatre Arts and Film Foundations (6-week mini course)
  • Theatre Arts 2: Acting for the Stage (6-week mini course)
  • Theatre Arts 2: Acting for the Screen (6-week mini course)
  • Continuing Studies in Theatre and Film (12-week course)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow the guidelines expected of all teaching faculty at St. Anne's-Belfield School
    • Curriculum delivery, pedagogy, attendance-taking, assessment, feedback
  • Communicate regularly with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Collaborate with administration and departmental staff

Director (Fall Play and/or Winter Musical) - Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with the chair of the Performing Arts department to select a one-act or full-length play at a G to PG maturity rating for the fall and a one-act or full-length musical with a G to PG rating for the winter. Selections for the 2024-2025 school year have been made but can be adjusted.
  • Direct high school theatre productions with students in various educational capacities including, but not limited to, acting, costuming, make-up, set design and construction, lighting, sound, technical, and directing.
  • Enforce performance participation and academic requirements; verify each student's eligibility to participate in theatre activities.
  • Maintain a safe and joyful environment for the cast, crew and colleagues.
  • Plan and execute intentional and productive rehearsals that last approximately 2 hours each.
    • Three, weekend, 4-hour-long rehearsals are permitted.
  • Collaborate with administration and departmental staff.
  • Lead regular production meetings with the creative, technical, and design teams.
  • Communicate regularly with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Ensure that the program is cost-effective and funds are managed wisely.
  • Assist with recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of student leaders (stage managers, assistant director).

November 7-9 - show dates for fall play

Winter Musical

November 12 - winter musical rehearsals begin, Mon - Fri after school

December 8 - winter musical long rehearsal 1 (12:30-4:30pm)

January 12 - winter musical long rehearsal 2 (12:30-4:30pm)

February 2 - winter musical long rehearsal 3 (12:30-4:30pm)
