Position Overview: The Accounts Payable & Payroll Associate is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all payroll and accounts payable transactions. This includes collecting, calculating, and entering payroll information; processing bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls; paying vendors; reimbursing employees; reconciling accounts and preparing journal entries. The Accounts Payable & Payroll Associate plays a critical role in the financial operations of United Way of Anchorage. By ensuring that all payments are processed accurately and timely, this role helps to protect the organization's financial assets and maintain its good standing with vendors and employees.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data.
  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverages, etc.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll reports.
  • Process bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls.
  • Calculate bi-weekly payroll liability payments.
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Reconcile monthly, quarterly, and annual tax documentation related to payroll and/or payables.
  • Process weekly accounts payable invoices.
  • Pay vendors by monitoring discount opportunities, scheduling and preparing checks, resolving invoice discrepancies, verifying mathematical accuracy of invoices, verifying coding and approvals.
  • Reimburse employees by verifying expense reports and reviewing for appropriate backup and correct expense coding.
  • Prepare Journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts regularly.
  • As a frontline ambassador for United Way of Anchorage and an individual who will interact with a variety of donors, volunteers, and community partners, maintain current awareness of program priorities, strategic plan goals, recent accomplishments, and laudable program milestones.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Skills, & Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in accounting or related subject preferred.
  • 3-5 years payroll and AP processing experience.
  • Experience preparing journal entries.
  • Experience with ADP preferred.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting desirable.
