Position Title: Admissions Counselor

Position Description/Mission:

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for all one-to-one aspects of the prospective student journey for applicants to The Washington Center’s catalog of program offerings. They nurture hundreds of applicants as they move through TWC’s Academic Internship Program (AIP) and short-term program enrollment funnels. Along with other members of the Recruitment and Admissions team, they will also conduct recruitment and lead generation activities on partner campuses. They provide extraordinary customer service to everyone they encounter and serve as the face of TWC in many of their stakeholder interactions. This position requires travel (up to 15% of the time) to partner campuses and some evening and weekend work/events.

TWC is a majority remote organization: for most employees, employment with TWC will not be contingent on physical presence in an office space. However, the person in this role is required to reside in the D.C. region to occasionally work in the office and support student/partner visits to TWC.


JOB FUNCTION

  • Build relationships with hundreds of applicants and nurture them through the enrollment funnel; meet or exceed set applicant conversion rates for each stage.
  • Maintain regular contact with applicants through scheduled conversations, outgoing phone calls, one-to-one emails, webinars, Zoom meetings, and text messages. Admissions Counselors are expected to spend considerable time on outreach activities to prospective students, for both AIP and short-term/seminar programs.
  • Collaborate with marketing-focused colleagues to align personalized messaging with broader strategy and continuously refine the student journey including mass email, social media, and content creation.
  • Provide support for Live Chat and respond to or redirect inquiries sent to the info box email address, offering superior customer service to all students and other parties.

Admissions and Enrollment Support

  • Review submitted applications according to the admissions timeline as assigned by the Assistant Director, making prompt and thorough admissions decisions.
  • Responsible for enrollment processes, with direction from Assistant Director, for AIP and short-term/seminar programs, including but not limited to, application document checks, working with applicants to secure missing materials, sending grade reports to institutions, internship agreement form transmission, and scholarship-related projects.

Enrollment Strategy

  • Work collaboratively with our institutional partnerships colleagues to strategically grow enrollment in TWC’s programs (AIP and short-term/seminar programs), as well as new programs, at assigned institutions.
  • Understand the value proposition and enrollment goals for each program and be able to engage students in conversation to help them identify a TWC experience that will help them accelerate their career.
  • Develop and leverage a deep understanding of each partner institution’s academic programs, student population, TWC arrangements, eligibility for scholarship funding, and TWC’s fit on campus to maximize student interest in TWC programs.

Lead Generation

  • Conduct campus-specific in-person and/or virtual recruitment activities to introduce TWC’s signature programs to prospective students, as well as faculty, staff, administrators and parents. During a typical semester, visit 8-12 schools.
  • Generate leads by presenting in classes and/or information sessions, speaking with students at career fairs or through other activities, in-person or virtually.
  • Demonstrate success at each campus as indicated by meeting specific lead generation goals, guiding students through their decision journey, and helping TWC advance school-specific strategies, which may include making inroads into new departments.

Database Management

  • Maintain detailed records of planning, visits to campus, and conversations with prospective students ensuring all relevant details are accurately logged in the CRM, and Asana.
  • In concert with university-facing colleagues, ensure institutional details contained in CRM are current and transferable to content designed for external audiences.


Required Education and Experience: An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Some related professional or internship experience
  • Spanish-language fluency (written and spoken)

Preferred Education/Qualifications and Experience:

  • Alumnus/a of the Academic Internship Program or a short-term /seminar program at The Washington Center
  • Experience working with college students or in a higher education setting
  • Experience in a customer-service related position
