General Description of Position:

The Athletic Trainer plays a critical role in the prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, rehabilitation, organization, administration, education, and counseling of athletes. This position ensures athletes receive the highest level of care and support, both on and off the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Injury Prevention and First Aid:
    • Develop and implement plans for athletic training coverage at all interscholastic events, both home and away.
    • Administer first aid to injured athletes and apply protective or injury-preventive devices such as taping, bandaging, or bracing.
    • Supervise the fitting of protective equipment to ensure athlete safety.
  • Training Room Management:
    • Direct daily training room operations, including exercise rehabilitation and therapy programs.
    • Maintain accurate records, manage requisitioning and storage of supplies, and oversee inventory and budget allocation.
  • Collaboration and Supervision:
    • Establish a working relationship with designated team physicians, community physicians, and school nursing staff.
    • Supervise and instruct assistant and student athletic trainers to ensure consistent and effective care.
    • Design and implement emergency action plans for high schools.
  • Education and Counseling:
    • Conduct annual educational meetings with parents/guardians about sports-related injuries.
    • Counsel and advise athletes and coaches on health-related matters.
    • Be a positive, visible force in the community and conduct targeted marketing to athletes, their families, coaches, athletic directors, and school administrators.
  • Medical Care and Rehabilitation:
    • Work under the direction of physicians to provide medical care to athletes.
    • Design training and rehabilitation programs tailored to the needs of athletes.
    • Assess and treat sports-related injuries using your expertise or refer athletes to medical professionals when necessary.
  • Record Keeping and Compliance:
    • Maintain detailed records of annual pre-participation physicals, insurance information, injuries, rehabilitation procedures, and special medical needs.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Equivalent to a four-year college degree.
    • 2 years of related experience and/or training, and 7 to 11 months of related management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Broad knowledge of fields such as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively, and capability to work independently.
    • One or two years in an outreach athletic trainer setting preferred.
    • Entry-level graduates with BOC certification will be considered.
  • Skills:
    • Basic proficiency in presentation/PowerPoint, spreadsheet, and word processing/typing software.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current license from the Licensing Board of Athletic Trainers in the state of Arkansas.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • BOC certification.
