Hours: Full Time

Reports To: Construction Project Manager


Starting Pay: $23 - $30/hr (depending on experience)

Regular Work Hours and Location: 

Typically, Monday – Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm. Work hours may vary from time to time.


Description:

Under the supervision of the Construction Project Manager, the CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR is responsible for inspecting infrastructure on site by conducting daily site visits, monitoring schedule, and quality of construction projects. 

 

Duties:

  • Performs assignments requiring the application of intensive and diversified knowledge of construction and management principles and practices in broad areas of assignments for water and wastewater projects.
  • Ensures that contract requirements are implemented by contractor and subcontractors including but not limited to project plans, specifications, shop drawings, contracts, reference standards, etc.
  • Conduct site inspections and feasibility assessments on water and wastewater projects.
  • Ensures compliance with local state, and federal laws.
  • Maintains records of construction activities and serves as a liaison between the owner, engineering consultant and construction contractor and sub-contracting companies.
  • Interprets and analyzes project plans and specifications, reference standards, shop drawing submittals, etc. for the contractor as needed.
  • Assures quality control with all aspects of the contractor and subcontractor’s work activities.
  • Analyze data, monitor expenditure, and draft progress reports.
  • Administers routine construction documents including field orders, change orders, request for information (RFI), notations for record drawings, daily/monthly activities report, etc.
  • Assignments may include calculations, review of equipment components and specifications, review of pay estimates, and report preparation.
  • Confers with supervisors or other managers to monitor construction progress, including worker productivity, and compliance with engineering and safety codes.
  • Ensures that a project is completed according to schedule, resolves problems that arise due to inclement weather, emergencies, or other issues that may cause delays.
  • Responds to citizens’ concerns as they relate to construction sites and right of ways.
  • Coordinates project walk-throughs and administrates the final acceptance process.
  • Receive and approve all closed out documents.
  • Mitigating risk, ensuring compliance, and evaluating environmental impact.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in construction of water or wastewater projects.

AND

  • Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "c" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law)

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards
  • Good understanding of safety guidelines.
  • Understanding of all facets of the construction process
  • Competent in conflict and crisis management
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications.
  • Ability to manage time and schedule daily activities.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a motor vehicle.
  • Familiarity with use of Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Revu, and Construction Project Management Software

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to maneuver around construction sites.
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain, bend, reach, kneel, and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, around heavy construction equipment, and confined spaces.
  • Must be able to routinely lift, move, push, pull, and otherwise relocate up to 25 lbs. without assistance.

 

Work Environment:

  • Requires work in both indoor and outdoor environments any time during the year.
  • Work areas may range from a form clean office setting to outdoor, off-road areas with unpleasant odors.
