A day in the life of a Staff Accountant
  • Perform general accounting duties including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Participate in month end close responsibilities including preparing monthly bank reconciliations
  • Financial reporting including updating financial statements for Board of Trustee meetings
  • Work closely with Controller on ad hoc reporting
  • Prepares monthly journal entries and related income statements
  • Reconciles bank accounts monthly, verifying deposits and outstanding checks
  • Process fund disbursement checks from benefits system.
  • Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit

What you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field is required with at least 2 years of related experience
  • Ability to set priorities, work independently, and manage time effectively
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel use and proficiencies in Microsoft Word, Outlook and accounting software such as QuickBooks
  • Knowledge of Labor Unions and Multiemployer Benefit Funds a plus
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, and excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles
