Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Summary:
As the Landscape Director, you will lead the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of all landscaping projects for Hoskinson Contracting, LLC. You will oversee a team of landscapers and collaborate with external contractors and stakeholders to ensure that all outdoor spaces are aesthetically pleasing, functional, and environmentally sustainable. You will use forward thinking and innovative design ideas to create one of a kind outdoor spaces.  
     Supervises:
  • 2-4 Landscape Laborers

     Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of landscape laborers.
  • Supervise employees, keeping attendance records, enforcing proper uniform and safety equipment use, and approving time cards.
  • Delegate tasks and provide guidance to ensure efficient workflow and quality workmanship.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and implement professional development initiatives for team members.
  • Visit job sites on a regular basis, observing organization of work, identifying and resolving training issues, and taking necessary actions to correct problems, improve quality and ensure customer satisfaction.

  Key Role Responsibilities:
      Strategic Planning
  • Develop long-term landscaping plans and strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide most recent plans and/or documents to field staff at the beginning of the day and provide instruction to ensure your team is prepared to complete daily jobs.
  • Forecast budgetary needs and resource requirements for landscaping projects.
      Design and Implementation
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and designers to plan and execute landscaping projects.
  • Ensure designs adhere to environmental regulations and sustainability principles.
  • Oversee the installation of landscapes, including plants, irrigation systems, and hardscape elements.
     Maintenance
  • Establish and enforce maintenance protocols to preserve the health and appearance of landscapes.
  • Monitor and manage pest control, fertilization, and irrigation schedules.
  • Coordinate seasonal maintenance activities, such as pruning, mowing, and leaf removal. 
    Budget and Resource Management
  • Develop and manage the landscaping department budget.
  • Maintains sufficient staff to accomplish production schedules. Provides input in analyzing and forecasting future needs of staff and material needs to complete future jobs.
  • Procure necessary equipment, materials, and supplies within budgetary constraints.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers for landscaping services and products.
    Compliance and Safety
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to landscaping practices.
  • Implement safety protocols and training programs to maintain a safe working environment.
     Client relations and communication
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders and clients, providing regular updates on project status.
  • Address stakeholder and client concerns and inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Facilitate effective communication among all project stakeholders.
  • Liaise with stakeholder and clients to address landscaping needs and concerns.
     Risk Management
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Respond to and resolve any issues or emergencies that arise during the project lifecycle.
     Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including contracts, permits, and progress reports.
  • Prepare and present regular project status reports to stakeholders.
  • Ensure all project closeout documentation is completed and archived appropriately.


Other Role Responsibilities:
  • Participate in actual field production work as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of good housekeeping and care of company assets in the field, vehicles, shop, field offices and customer work-sites.
  • Stay aware of Best Practices. Develop and recommend improved work methods and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven experience as a Director of Landscaping or similar role, with a background in landscape architecture, horticulture, or related field.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
  • Excellent knowledge of landscaping principles, techniques, and materials.
  • Proficiency in budget management and financial planning.
  • Familiarity with landscape design software and CAD programs (e.g., AutoCAD).
  • Good understanding of environmental regulations and sustainability practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations and to adapt to constant change.
  • Ability to think outside the box and be creative to come up with innovative solutions.
     
Education & Experience:
  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • In Lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the landscaping field, with a proven track record of managing larger-scale projects.


Certifications & Professional Affiliations:
  • Certified Landscape Professional certification (CLP) is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or ability to obtain (required).


Working Environment:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May require periods of travel.
  • Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
  • Assignment location may include project sites and/or in the office.
  • Occasional activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen.
  • Frequent Activity: standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching above shoulder, pushing, pulling.
