Merchant McIntyre & Associates is a midsize federal grants and government relations firm headquartered in Washington, D.C., that helps nonprofit clients from the higher education, healthcare, and local government sectors reach their federal funding and legislative advocacy goals.

Merchant McIntyre seeks a Grant Compliance Consultant responsible for providing expert guidance and oversight to ensure that organizations adhere to federal, state, and organization grant regulations and compliance requirements. This role involves conducting thorough assessments, developing compliance strategies, and assisting with the implementation of best practices to optimize the effective use of grant funds. The consultant will work closely with clients, providing support in preparing, managing, and reporting grants.

Requirements:

Compliance Assessment:

  • Evaluate current grant management processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of grant-funded project policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Develop risk assessments and compliance checklists as needed.
Regulatory Guidance:
  • Stay updated on federal regulations and guidelines related to grant management.
  • Research state, local, and organization regulations and guidelines related to grant management.
  • Interpret and explain complex grant regulations to clients.
  • Provide advice on compliance issues and strategies to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Policy and Procedure Development:
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for grant compliance.
  • Recommend improvements to existing compliance frameworks.
Training and Support:
  • Conduct training sessions for client staff on grant compliance requirements as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
  • Develop training materials and resources.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Assist clients in the preparation of grant reports and required documentation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting to sponsors.
  • Maintain thorough records of all compliance activities and support.
Audit Support:
  • Prepare clients for audits and site visits.
  • Assist in responding to audit findings and developing corrective action plans.
  • Monitor the implementation of corrective actions to ensure compliance.
Qualifications:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in federal grant compliance, grant management, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing federal grants and ensuring compliance.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of federal grant regulations, including OMB Circulars and the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Certifications:

  • Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) or similar certification is a plus.
