Position Summary
The Social Worker position is designed to support students' social, emotional, and academic well-being by providing and supporting ongoing social-emotional learning, counseling, and connecting students and families to school and community resources. The role involves monitoring and analyzing students' social and emotional development to deepen students' coping skills, improve their social interactions, and elevate their overall well-being. Additionally, the role involves supporting the principal and school's vision, collaborating with leadership, and supporting teaching and learning to align with the school's goals.
VISION OF EXPLORATION ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL
To engage students, their families, and the community in the process of scientific inquiry and the use of innovative technology to develop the social, emotional, and academic tools necessary to thrive in school and in today's interconnected world.
Essential Functions
- Promotes the school’s vision by providing support and demonstrating the following skills: counseling, crisis intervention, resource connection, and student advocacy necessary for supporting students' well-being.
- Provides community connections and resources to families and closes the loop to ensure families are connected to the resources they need.
- Ensures the implementation of the school's comprehensive support model via monitoring and observation.
- Conducts informal assessments and provides feedback to teachers and families, assisting with the support of new students.
- Facilitates support groups and assists teachers with strategies for social-emotional learning.
- Monitors students’ social and emotional progress and arranges for interventions based on assessments.
- Conducts analysis of student data and recommends modifications to support plans.
- Uses observation and data to identify professional development needs for staff regarding social-emotional learning and designs and delivers site-based training.
- Assists with reviewing student support plans and provides feedback to teachers and staff.
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by principal, immediate supervisor, and district-level administration.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of successful techniques for student support and experience planning for effective interventions.
- Knowledge of strategies that connect students to necessary resources.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively to students, families, and staff.
- Proficiency in using computer-based tracking and reporting software.
- Time management skills for managing multiple cases and responsibilities.
- Ability to differentiate support based on individual student needs and assess their progress.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.
- Flexibility to adapt to various in-person and remote support environments.
- Knowledge of school safety and security procedures.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to redirect conversations to focus on solutions and outcomes.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:- Master’s degree in social work (MSW) or a related field from an accredited institution is required.
- Preferred- hold or be eligible for a certificate issued by NYS Professional Standards.
