Ascension Recovery Services is searching for a SENIOR COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST with SUD or behavioral health experience to join our team. 


The Sr Compliance Specialist supports the organization by supporting the company regulatory compliance program and ensures compliance with all governing agencies, acts, laws and best practices. 


Accountabilities

  • Assist with the administration of the organization’s compliance program and establish best practices to support compliance.
  • Review facility and corporate policies and procedures to ensure that all practices are in compliance with applicable standards.
  • Evaluate and communicate relevant information from JC/CARF, QM/RM meetings, professional associations, literature, etc., to management and provide any needed follow-up action or monitoring for compliance.
  • Facilitate and coordinate preparation of document review material and review all material for compliance with survey requirements.
  • Facilitate efforts to identify and evaluate Joint Commission/CARF QA/PI requirements.
  • Partner with operations, revenue cycle and clinical departments to identify and monitor critical risk areas, planning for mitigating risks, and developing action plans in order to establish and reinforce a culture of compliance.
  • Develop and utilize data driven audit tools; including compliance KPI, protocols, etc., develop written reports to accurately reflect audit findings.
  • Create and provide training to educate staff on compliance activities, accreditation standards, best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Research industry compliance regulations and keep abreast of regulatory changes and developments in the regulatory environment.
  • Lead the state licensing process which can include CON filings, licensing application completion and submittal, CLIA waiver completion and submittal and other required regulatory filings.
  • Perform medical record reviews and compare services provided in the EMR and billing records to determine the accuracy of information and compliance with documentation standards.
  • Conduct facility inspections to ensure compliance with internal requirements and external regulations. Identify and communicate any safety or risk management concerns or opportunities for improvement to involved staff and committees for risk reduction and continued monitoring.
  • Serve as the Safety and Risk Manager in the areas of Risk Management/Claims Management, Occupational Safety, Fire and Life Safety and environmental Compliance as well as assessing patient and visitor incidents

Education, Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or other related field required
  • 3+ years of experience in compliance role in healthcare environment required; behavioral health or substance use disorder experience strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in data management and analysis, developing quality management plans, and writing policies and procedures required.
  • 3+ years of experience with Joint Commission/CARF standards is required; and the ability to collect, interpret, analyze, and present data, as well as interpret guidelines related to current Joint Commission/CARF standards is required.
  • In depth knowledge of State & Federal policy, procedures, rules, and regulations pertaining to Compliance and Quality Management
  • Sound interpersonal skills and communication, initiative, leadership, professionalism, decision-making, and managerial/business skills necessary for the role
  • Ability to work as a team member, and willingness to give and receive constructive feedback to produce the highest-quality product every time.
