The mission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the Archdiocese is seeking a Recreation Specialist. This role helps to plan and prepare recreational and social activities for the Victory Youth Center and reports to the Recreation Center Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a nurturing and positive safe space for youth and parents to gather and enrich their mind, body and spirit.
  • Plan, prepare and lead recreational and social activities for small and large groups
  • Manage a caseload of 15-20 youth daily; providing youth wellness, academic and physical fitness support
  • Provide cleaning and appropriate safety measures while working closely with direct care staff and volunteer services staff to ensure that the Merrick Center is a presentable space for all
  • Analyze crisis situations and provide effective and supportive resolutions
  • Effectively build relationships with youth and parents; providing resources and skill building

Qualifications

  • Outstanding ability to relate to youth and parents
  • Patient and nurturing
  • Able to multi-task
  • Able to analyze and diffuse crisis situation
  • High level of organizational skills

Education and Experience

  • Experience in recreational management for youth
  • Experience in safety, first aid and organization for a recreational facility
  • Experience with organizing large groups of volunteers
  • Experience in diffusing crises.
  • High level of experience in relationship building for youth and their parents.
  • Ability to work weekend hours as required.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
