Job Summary:
The Sr Utilities Mechanic performs a technical role focusing on supporting Product Supply manufacturing by maintaining the operational status of facility/utility equipment. The incumbent uses customer-based interpersonal and detailed documentation skills to complement experience working on utilities equipment for the Shawnee site.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and monitor the operation of utility equipment associated with a sterile pharmaceutical production facility, such as industrial high-pressure boilers, industrial chillers, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and hot water systems. Also including WFI distillation units, pure steam generators, pumps, piping, filters, and other mechanical and electrical equipment. S/he would be expected to record readings and make adjustments where necessary to ensure proper operation of equipment. Prioritizing work by safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all base building and critical system equipment listed above, including but not limited to generators, exhaust fans, air compressors, HVAC, water generation and wastewater systems.
- Install and repair plumbing/piping/tubing. Perform miscellaneous single and three phase electrical work for machinery, motors, operating parts. Be able to install and rebuild pumps and heat exchangers, replace bearing and mechanical seals in all types of motors and pumps. Assist other mechanics and operators with minor and major repairs of any building and facility equipment.
- Responsible for reporting any problems/malfunctions identified while monitoring and maintaining equipment. Requires the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, troubleshoot problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.
- Maintain tools and order supplies as required for installation and repairs. Keeps logs, document equipment repairs, complete work orders and provides constant communication with the Site Utility Lead and/or Site Utility Manager. Physical surroundings can be noisy, hot, and highly stressful. S/he can expect to encounter multiple interruptions during the workday.
- Coordinate with Production Supervision/Leads and Planning for scheduling of Utilities PM’s, Calibrations and work orders. Assist in tracking completion of PM’s, CAL’s and work orders. Coordinate with Production Maintenance and PCT to support technicians in their areas.
- Utilities coverage for regular, weekends and OT production. Participate and support the weekend rotation coverage for the utilities/facilities equipment.
- Work with Engineering to coordinate Utilities support for equipment and process related projects.
- Take ownership of training and learning to develop high performance competencies such as technical skills, communication skills, and customer (production) support skills. Maintain good organization and housekeeping.
- Provide input and recommend spare part needs for equipment. Provide input and assistance with developing and revising maintenance SOPs and JHAs.
- Meet the Production and Shutdown schedules outlined by Production Planning and CMMS respectively for manufacturing of quality products safely and efficiently.
- Generate and document deviation identified as a result of the PM & calibration process.
- Continuously maintain utility/facility machinery with the objective of improving system performance and efficiency. Perform equipment repairs for utility/facility areas and assist with installation, verification and startup of new processes and systems.
- Comply with all workplace standards and safety procedures, including Lockout /Tagout, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs), Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements (OSHA), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Company Guidelines.
- Perform other duties as trained and assigned
Qualifications:
- A minimum of (2) years accredited/certified training (i.e. vo-tech) in mechanical technologies (machining, welding, and shop fabrication).
- A minimum of (5) years industrial hands-on experience maintaining utilities/facilities machinery in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Utilities experience supporting utility equipment and other equipment such as pumps, tanks, and piping systems. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to accurately diagnose and repair multiple types of manufacturing equipment.
- Must have machining and welding experience fabricating and repairing parts using a metal lathe, vertical end mill, and MIG/TIG welder. Experience using hand and power tools for equipment repairs. Hands-on experience repairing and fabricating parts in a machine shop for completion of repairs on facility/utility equipment.
- Must be able to rotate to any shift based upon production support needs and training opportunities. Must be able to work overtime based on production schedule and as requested.
- Must have excellent organization and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in both individual and team environments. Good written and verbal communication skills in English required.
- Good personal computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel required. Experience using SAP and a CMMS for preventive maintenance activities.
- Basic electronic skills and experience using some electronic diagnostic equipment.
- Must have the aptitude to perform the following actions:
Calculating math problems, technical reading and writing at a high school level.
Using analytical skills for troubleshooting various industrial machines and their controls.
Read/interpret/follow instructions regarding workplace documentation such as SOPs,
equipment manuals, and work instructions.
Using both U.S. and E.U. formats of machine specifications, P&ID schematics, mechanical
drawings, and technical manuals.
