Position Summary:

Electrician Senior

The Electrician Senior position is a skilled craft position that works on the Maintenance Crew for the Capitol Complex Campus area and the State Office Buildings. This position performs skilled electrical and electronic system work.

The Electrician Senior is assigned the following duties and responsibilities:

Plan, construct and install new electrical systems in the interior and exterior of the Capitol Complex buildings and grounds. These systems are constructed or installed because of requests from agencies housed in the various buildings or as a result of changes in building mechanical systems. Work is accomplished by cutting, shaping and fastening conduit, flexible conduit and wire mold conduit to meet the requests of the agency or project. All electrical work must conform to the requirements of the Uniform Electrical Code, which relates to Life Safety because all applications are used by some individual or group.

Maintain and repair high voltage lines and transformers, switch gear and emergency generators with associated switch gear. Work is accomplished using special safety precautions and equipment to repair high voltage switches and test the high voltage switch gear circuit breakers on a five-year schedule.

Diagnose and correct electrical problems to prevent loss of state employee’s work time. Replaces ballasts, re-lamps and cleans light fixtures to improve lighting levels while conserving energy. Operates building automation system and answers requests for services regarding hot and cold calls.

Install power, data, and computer cables through ceilings, walls, and floors for OITS and other agencies following all applicable Uniform Electrical Code requirements. Disassembles and reassembles air handlers, floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners and motors in order to replace defective bearings, belts and other mechanical parts using mechanical knowledge and skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience as an electrician. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor such as lifting, pushing and pulling to move equipment. Must be able to climb ladders and work from scaffolding and ladders. The ability to lift or negotiate the movement of up to 50 lbs.
