Job DescriptionJob DescriptionLao Family Community Development, Inc. (LFCD) is a community development non-profit agency established in the City of Richmond in Contra Costa County in 1980. Today Lao Family has expanded its operations and service footprint to two additional counties including Alameda and Sacramento. LFCD’s headquarters office is in Oakland, CA. It delivers programs and services from 7 locations in 35 languages. The agency provides community development real estate facilities and a diverse array of workforce, education, and human services that directly support predominantly low-income US-born high-barrier families and individuals, refugees, immigrants, transitional-age youth, seniors, and other special populations such as individuals with disabilities.


Job Summary: LFCD is seeking a qualified candidate to assist and check-in participants in the front desk reception area(Building 1), keep track of volunteers' daily attendance, assist with mailing and distribution, and assist and handle phone & walk-in inquiries. Some special events may occur on evenings & weekends and may need your participation, schedule permitting.


This position requires a demonstration of effective verbal, listening, and written communication skills in English and Ukrainian/Russian. The candidate must be able to work effectively with diverse populations, cultures, and families (youth, adolescents, parents, seniors, re-entry, crime victims, homeless, and families) each with varying needs. This candidate will be stationed at our Sacramento Hurley Way location, scheduled for Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Greet and welcome participants, visitors, employers, and CARE tenants entering the Lao Family CARE Center in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer phone calls and check voicemails daily.
  • Assist participants with the first-time visitor application form and enter the information in the Xavus database system immediately. Follow LFCD’s policy and procedures for screening participants before they leave the front desk reception area.
  • Complete the incident report form, if necessary, and assist in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of CARE areas. Manage the overall cleanliness and organize the front desk reception area to make sure it’s professionally presentable.
  • Conduct the Monthly Office Safety Checklist and submit it to the Operations team & the Training & Quality Control Manager by the assigned due date.
  • Receive and order office supplies and business cards for all agency offices, and maintain office supply room inventory. Work with IT Support with receiving office equipment and assisting with calling for equipment service requests as needed.
  • Assist universal customers with resume assistance, online application, Unemployment Insurance application, copying, and faxing employment-related forms.
  • Participate in an ad hoc committee to help the organization accomplish and maintain short-term and long-term goals from the organization’s strategic plan. Assist the Operations team with ad hoc projects and any additional tasks supporting the Site Manager & Supervisor.
  • Other duties assigned by the Site Manager and Program Coordinator.


Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred or 3-4 years of experience in customer service in an office setting. Must have at least 1-2 years of customer service experience.
  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, or Ukrainian, a plus.
  • Proficient in computer skills: Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, databases, and navigating online websites.
  • Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision; excellent communication, community relations, networking, and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with families, women, and children without discrimination towards people of diverse cultures, races/ethnicity, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental challenges/disabilities, and sexual orientations.
  • Must be enthusiastic, client-centered, creative, dedicated, organized, and motivated to work with low-income, people with multiple barriers and diverse ethnic/social backgrounds.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, have exceptional time management, and able to work well as a team with other staff members and other agencies' staff.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work on the computer; use hands to handle or feel, talk or hear; and move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • For special events, must have a flexible schedule on some evenings and weekends.
  • Able to travel to different office locations on a need basis.
  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License, clean DMV record, and proof of current auto insurance and registration; must pass a background check. In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.


Compensation: Salary range is: $21.00 - $23.00/Hour, based on experience and education, and is a full-time, non-exempt position, including health, vision, dental, sick leave, group life insurance, and an employer-contributed pension (after 1 year of service with LFCD). After passing your 55-day introductory period, you will also earn paid vacation leave & be eligible for paid holidays.
