Job Summary:
Under the Workforce Development Division, the Adult Learning Program at GLCAC, Inc. helps individuals learn basic education skills, including English, needed for day-to-day living and to increase opportunities of employment to attain financial stability. The program also prepares students for the citizenship examination and interview process.
GLCAC seeks an experienced, well-organized instructor of Civics, ESOL, and adult learning. Experience must include both in-person and online teaching familiarity.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet Massachusetts state and federal standards (MA ELPS) in the GLCAC’s adult learning program.
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies to address the varied learning styles.
- Addresses all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak and listen in the appropriate content area.
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress.
- Supervise students’ participation while in the program and refer them to appropriate resources.
- Adapt program curriculum to provide individual, small group and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly and productive classroom environment.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interest of students.
- Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
- Oversee assigned out-of-classroom activities as needed.
- Participate in periodic staff meetings and training.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field in education
- Active and engaged in ongoing professional development (within the last 12 months)
- Five years of experience teaching adults and classroom management
- Experience in online classroom teaching and management
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- The ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment for both in-person and online teaching
- English native speaker
- TESOL certification preferred
- Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and people from the different racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages that make up GLCAC’s clientele, to support the agency’s mission of building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization for employees and clients alike.

Travel: May be required
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
