HANAC, Inc. – originally founded by George Douris as the Hellenic American Neighborhood Action Committee – is a New York City-based multi-faceted social services organization. The organization was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of vulnerable populations throughout New York City.

The Outreach Specialist will be in charge of clerical work for the program. Makes copies, scans documents, answers phones and maintains records of all phone calls from potential applicants. S/he is in charge of informing the community about the benefits of participating in our program. The Outreach Specialist/Intake conducts outreach for low-income families to invite qualified applicants to employment training, and job placement workshops. The intake/outreach specialist provides thorough assistance to prospective program applicants in regard to any of their inquiries.

Hours: Monday Through Friday, some weekends as required (25 hrs. per week)

Salary: $18/hr

Major Functions/ Accountabilities:

  • Assists eligible applicants in completing intake forms.
  • Collects all required data from eligible applicants to prepare their program folders and their licensing application package.
  • Accompanies applicants to get fingerprinted for the licensing process.
  • Makes program presentations during orientation sessions to introduce prospective program applicants to the program.
  • Answers phones, provides information in a clear effective manner, and in general, provides clerical support to the program.
  • Conducts outreach and community-related activities to increase referral database and community education.
  • Maintains logs of the program activities (outreach, phone calls, as required). Completes monthly reports as required.
  • Provides incentives to program applicants according to program guidelines

Qualifications

  • An associate’s degree in Social Sciences or similar.
  • Minimum one-year working experience in human or social services, or in a community-based organization setting.
  • Must be able to use the Office package at a working level (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and google technology packages are a plus.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills,
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Able to work independently and produce assignment reports as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Bilingual Spanish is ideal but not required.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services

Additional Job Requirements
