SUMMARY:

This position oversees the daily operations of the WOW program, including the supervision of WOW staff and volunteers. It acts as a key liaison to the Nutrition Director and WOW Advisory Board and provides support to kitchen staff during their time off. The role also collaborates with the Nutrition Department to develop new and innovative strategies for reducing food insecurity and enhancing sustainability in food procurement.

WORKERS ON WHEELS PROGRAM:

The Workers on Wheels (WOW) program is designed to assist older adults with essential tasks that help them maintain their independence and continue living in their own homes. The program offers a range of services, including transportation to medical appointments, rides to grocery stores, and seasonal assistance such as "Rake the Town" in the fall. By providing these critical supports, WOW enables seniors to navigate daily challenges more easily, ensuring they can remain self-sufficient and connected to their communities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:

  1. Assist in the hiring process for staff and volunteers to support the department and program needs. Including screening, training, and appreciation.

  2. Effective communication, organization, and collaboration skills with the other WOW department staff.

  3. Working with the Nutrition Department on food insecurity through gardening, local stores, and local restaurants.

  4. Head of monthly in-service for staff.

  5. Complete intakes for new clients and maintain database for existing clients.

  6. Coordinate the volunteer program by maintaining the database and reporting monthly updates to the Nutrition/ WOW director by the 5 business days the following month.

  7. Ensure financial responsibility for WOW is met by completing the required monthly and annual reports.

  8. Engage and participate with the Advisory Board and Committees for program publicity, fundraising, planning, and financial management.

  9. Actively maintain and seek new appropriate community and church contacts including local pastors, church coordinators, Boys and Girls Club, Boy & Girl Scouts, educational institutions that provide volunteers.

  10. Actively maintain and seek new contacts with local clinics, providing information about our services to promote WOW in the Sioux Empire Region.

  11. Head “Rake the Town” with WOW Advisory Committee from inception to completion, including follow up evaluations.

  12. Knowledge of duties in the kitchen and ability to fill in when needed.

  13. Works in the kitchen at the West location the 3rd Friday of every month during the noon hour.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to work the hours specified above

  • Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Two-year college degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Gerontology, or related behavioral science or four years of related experience is required.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel (keyboarding, phone calls), and talk and hear.
  • The employee is required to move about and frequently reach with hands, and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch.
  • The employee must be able to view computer screens for long periods of time. (50% or more of the time for the position is computer related).
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move about up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move above 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

REQUIRED COMMUNCIATION/MATHEMATICAL/REASONING SKILLS:

  • Must possess the required level of skills and ability to read, write, speak and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.
  • Must be able to perform basic operations on a computer within the windows operating system.
  • This position requires problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task.
