About the Port Washington Children’s Center

The PWCC is a community-based, non-profit, non-sectarian organization offering high quality early childhood care and education for toddlers-three’s, district-contracted UPK, and children attending after school programs and summer camps.

Our mission is to provide exceptional, high-quality childcare and early educational experience in an emergent environment for children of families who reside or work residing or working in the community of Port Washington. Education/Credentials:

LMSW/LCSW

Qualifications:

  • 2 to 5 years’ early childhood experience required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Mandarin required
  • MS Office Suite (MS Word; Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Working knowledge of app-based technology and smartphones required
  • Familiarity with Port Washington/Nassau County a plus
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills required

Position Responsibilities and Duties

Description

Using an interdisciplinary approach, work collaboratively with parents, teachers, developmental specialists, and school counselors to:

Direct Services and Case Management

40%

  • Directly support children’s social and emotional health to ensure their well-being and safety through one-on-one and small group work.
  • Promote developmentally appropriate practices and strategies to nurture children’s social emotional development growth.
  • Design child and family support plans and interventions that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and responsive to cultural differences among staff and families.
  • Coordinate stakeholders (children, families, teachers, service providers) and monitor delivery of support plans to ensure follow through.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to children and families.
  • Educate parents and teachers on children’s mental health
  • Provide parent workshops and facilitate parent support groups.
  • Provide support with individual child behavior and classroom support
  • Work alongside teachers to develop responsive action plans for children exhibiting challenging behaviors.

Professional Development

  • Provide formal feedback, coaching and responsive strategies to teaching teams at scheduled meetings and informally throughout the day.
  • Partner with classroom teachers to conduct parent-teacher conferences to build relationships and encourage connections between home and school.
  • Plan and deliver teacher professional development around issues social emotional development and children’s mental health.

Communication and Support

20%

  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues, and respond to family concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Establish a professional rapport and strong relationship with children, staff and families.
  • Design and facilitate Early Childhood’s family orientation and welcome process, including a strengths-based needs assessment and goal setting as required by Quality Stars, NY.

Partner with External Providers

10%

  • Provide referrals for community mental health and support services; identify community resources and build relationships with community partners including the Family Resource Center.
  • Refer individuals and families to external resources and services and when necessary.
  • Partner with the Port Washington School District by attending CPSE meetings on behalf of the children and families of the PWCC

Other

10%

  • Help families who qualify for DSS aid apply for social services aid
  • Maintain required records and documentation, including case notes for children and families.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
