The Social Worker serves clients referred by the Pro Bono Center’s legal services programs, helping Pro Bono Center staff to identify the social services needs of their clients and providing appropriate services and/or referrals. The Social Worker will assist clients in accessing services such as public benefits, financial assistance and housing; develop client-centered care plans; and work directly with clients in crisis to provide support and intervention services. This is an hourly position working up to 10 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides direct and indirect social services in-person and remotely at Pro Bono Center clinics and programs.

• Serves as an advocate for clients, providing access to financial assistance, legal services, and housing.

• Provides social work consultation, information, referrals, and materials to the community.

• Conducts psycho-social assessments, including capacity assessments, and develops client-centered care plans.

• Provides direct services to, and advocacy for, clients. Assists clients to obtain access to appropriate services such as financial assistance, legal aid, health support, and housing.

• Engages in same day social services for walk-in clients at Pro Bono Center clinics.

• Helps prepare reports for internal and grant reporting.

• Prepares and updates social services materials for the public and responds to and maintains records of requests for materials and information.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in social work or related discipline

• Must be a D.C. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)

• Experience working with marginalized, vulnerable populations and individuals with mental and physical disabilities.

• Knowledge and familiarity with benefits and service programs for lower-income residents and experience helping clients qualify for benefits and navigate systems.

• Experience assisting clients in crisis.

• Experience working with attorneys/legal services a plus.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.

• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment.

• Excellent interpersonal skills. Must work well in a team environment and be able to interact with clients, the public, Bar members, volunteers, and staff.

• Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills; must be adaptable, creative, and self- motivated, and must be able to work with minimal supervision.

• Must work well under pressure, possess excellent organizational abilities, and able to manage several priorities in a day.

• Must be detail oriented and deadline driven.

• Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information.


PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with a legal services organization that provides legal services to indigent individuals.

• Experience working with volunteers.

• Proficiency in Spanish.


This position is currently a hybrid position, with days worked in-person and days worked remotely. The hybrid status of this position may change at any time subject to the Bar’s discretion.
