ABLE Academy is a leading private school located in Naples, Florida, dedicated to providing year-round behavioral and educational services to students with developmental, intellectual, and behavioral challenges who are ages 2-22. We offer a unique program that focuses on four key areas: meaningful academics, independent living skills, accessing the community, and employability. 

Our Secondary Program is an innovative educational approach that follows a business-based work-study training model. Team members are encouraged to build lessons around topics and activities that ignite a passion for learning and working. Students, ages 13-22, receive functional academic instruction and support while gaining practical work experience and learning valuable vocational skills in "mock" business and skills lab settings. 

We strongly emphasize teaching independent living skills such as budgeting, time management, and interpersonal communication. The program's primary objective is to equip students with the practical skills and work experience necessary to prepare them for the possibility of post-secondary “specialized” education, supported or unsupported employment, but most importantly, to positively contribute to their families and communities. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, professionalism, work ethic, and communication skills.

Our classroom sizes generally do not exceed seven learners per class. Teachers work with three different groups of students daily. Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the supervision and safety of students.
  • Establish and maintain student forms and files as required.
  • Conduct long-range planning for instruction, complete lesson plans, and create or collect materials needed for lesson plan delivery and implementation.
  • Individualize and deliver lesson plans to meet the needs of the individual learners.
  • Maintain data regarding progress.
  • Participate in team and parent meetings.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans.
  • Accurately report on student progress on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain communication with parents, caregivers, and outside therapists/service providers.
  • Participate in ongoing training and continuing education.
  • Participate in training opportunities as designed for families.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of human development, effective instructional practices, and lesson plan development, modification, and implementation are important skills that will be necessary for your success.
  • Knowledge of basic Applied Behavior Analysis is preferred.
  • Training and supervision will be provided for RBT certification, which must be acquired within the first six months of employment.
  • Basic skills with Mac computers preferred.
  • You must be able to work closely and productively with team members, have a positive attitude, take initiative, and be flexible.
  • Effective and quality written communication skills are a must.
  • A background check is required.
