Job Description

Position Title: Maintenance Laborer

Job Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of facilities, ground maintenance and janitorial services, general maintenance work required to maintain the housing units and community areas in a safe, decent sanitary manner. General painting work as necessary for the construction, repair and maintenance of housing owned, operated, or managed by SHA or ISCEC.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs general grounds cleaning by picking up debris, raking leaves, removal of abandoned property
  • Performs minor repairs such as replacing screens, curtain rods, shades, globes, towel brackets and soap dishes
  • Assist in removing and replacing damaged floor tile, painting of occupied and vacant units, replacing and finishing walls and ceiling surfaces
  • Assist in the installation of appliances
  • Assist in repair of broken water and sewer lines
  • Assist with snow and ice removal from parking areas, paths, walks, driveways and steps
  • Assist in repair of roofs, gutters, down spouts, fences
  • Assist in the repair of concrete or asphalt surfaces
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment
  • Assist in cleaning of maintenance shop
  • Other duties as assigned

Education

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

At least 2 years’ experience in a residential or commercial environment is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Must have knowledge of general maintenance repairs. Must be able to read and follow written and oral instructions. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit, stand and move for moderate periods of time as required to complete the tasks of the job. Must also be able to lift up to 35 lbs. on a periodic basis.
