Position Overview: The Combo Body Technician at our reputable auto body shop is a pivotal role responsible for a diverse range of vehicle repair and restoration tasks, including collision repair, structural work, body repair, surface preparation, ensuring the highest quality standards in color matching, application, and finishing. This multifaceted position demands exceptional technical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of automotive repair processes and painting techniques. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collision Repair: Expertly repair damaged vehicle body structures, panels, doors, fenders, and frames caused by collisions. 

  • Structural Repair: Utilize advanced equipment and techniques to restore vehicle structural integrity after accidents. 

  • Panel Replacement: Accurately remove and replace damaged body panels, ensuring proper alignment fitment, and to OEM Specification’s. 

  • Bodywork and Fabrication: Perform metal shaping, welding, and fabrication as needed to repair or fabricate body components. 

  • Surface Preparation: Properly prepare surfaces for paint application by sanding, priming, and ensuring smooth surfaces. 

  • Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of repaired vehicles to ensure repairs meet industry standards and safety requirements, and to complete a Quality control check list before handing in all work and sending to detail. 

  • Mechanical Assistance: Collaborate with mechanical technicians to address mechanical aspects related to collision-damaged vehicles. 

  • Estimation Support: Provide insights into repair methods, timeframes, and required materials for accurate estimations. 

  • Paint Application: Expertly apply paint and refinishing materials to vehicles, ensuring accurate color matching and smooth finishes. 

  • Preparation: Properly prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding, masking, priming, and ensuring optimal adhesion of paint. 

  • Color Matching: Analyze paint codes and use color-matching techniques to achieve accurate and consistent color results. 

  • Spray Techniques: Utilize spray guns and equipment to apply paint evenly and achieve desired texture and finish. 

 

  • Clear Coating: Apply clear coats and protective finishes to enhance paint durability and gloss. 

  • Quality Control: Conduct rigorous inspections of painted surfaces to ensure flawless finishes and adherence to quality standards. 

  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate paint equipment, ensuring proper functionality and safety compliance. 

  • Environmental Compliance: Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices for paint mixing, disposal, and emissions control. 

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of repairs performed, techniques used, and materials utilized, paint mixing formulas, color codes, application techniques, and materials used, as well as using the mobile estimating app to take all supplement photos. 

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, guidelines, and industry standards to ensure a safe working environment. 

  • Continuous Learning: Attend training sessions, workshops, and educational programs to enhance your knowledge and skills in automotive body repair. 

  • This role involves occasional travel for industry events for training. 

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal training or certification in automotive body repair is preferred. 

  • Proven experience as a combo body technician, with at least three years of relevant experience. 

  • Proven experience as a refinishing technician, with at least three years of relevant experience. 

  • Advanced proficiency in automotive refinishing techniques, color matching, and paint application. 

  • Proficiency in collision repair, structural repairs, bodywork, and surface preparation. 

  • Strong knowledge of body repair tools, equipment, and techniques. 

  • Detail-oriented with excellent precision and attention to detail in repair work. 

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, team members, and service advisors. 

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record. 

  • Registered with I-Car and have current I-Car training. 

Physical Requirements: This role involves physical tasks related to collision repair, bodywork, and refinish preparation, as well as prolonged periods of standing, precise hand movements, and performing tasks related to paint application. It may also require occasional lifting of heavy objects. 

As a Combo Body Technician, you will play a crucial role in restoring vehicle aesthetics and integrity, contributing significantly to the shop's reputation for quality automotive services and repair excellence.
