Smart Data Solutions, a leading provider of data management, claim routing and workflow solutions to health plans and TPAs, is looking for a strong accounting professional to join our Finance team.

The Controller will be responsible for coordinating the month-end close and financial reporting. In addition, this person will supervise Accounts Payable and Payroll activities. This individual will report to and work directly with the Sr. Director, Financial Accounting and Control and will lead accounting activities, systems, and processes within a fast-paced, growing organization.

What you’ll be doing?

Principal Accounting Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the month-end close process to meet reporting deadlines and drive improvements in the close process
  • Consolidate financials for multiple entities in various currencies
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Liaison with sales team on calculating sales commissions and accounting for deferred selling costs
  • Responsible for payroll accounting entries and benefit reporting
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting and reporting for accuracy and liaison with external auditors
  • Coordinate and prepare various tax and audit workpapers, and walk throughs for the external auditors; handle ongoing assessment of internal controls
  • Manage the accounts payable process and staff
  • Assist with the assessment of a new accounting system and implementation
  • Assist with acquisition accounting and integration activities
  • Department spend reporting, analysis, and distribution for management team
  • Month-end financial reporting and analytical review of the financial statements against prior year. Identify and implement financial reporting process improvements.
  • Assist Finance team on ad-hoc projects as required
  • Other duties as assigned
What we’re looking for?

Required skills:

  • 4-year degree in accounting or related coursework, CPA preferred
  • 5+ years accounting experience, public accounting or industry experience preferred
  • Microsoft Office products; strong Excel skills
  • The ability to be hands on, organized and detail oriented
  • Strong accounting, quantitative, and analytical skills, and ability to apply those skills within the role
  • Ability to identify issues and take initiative for process improvement and problem resolution
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks or other accounting software and experience on financial system implementations is a plus

Location:

This position is located in our Eagan, MN office. This is a hybrid position with requirements of 3 days in-office.
