About Group Care Services at VHBG

VHBG is licensed by the Department of Social Services and aims to create the most natural environment for our youth that still provides them with the supports they need to overcome past trauma, build relationships, and work on transitioning to a more permanent environment. We work directly with the child’s agency that placed them with us (typically the city or county department of social services) to make decisions that are in their best interest. Youth are able to leave our campus to spend time with their families, attend summer camps, gain employment, and participate in other extracurricular activities. We have been able to give the youth who come here the opportunity to have a childhood and experience the joy in life.

About the Opportunity

The Staff Supervisor supervises Youth Counselors in the home, performs and supervises the delivery of resident care under the direction of the Group Home Manager, and provides teaching, guidance and supervision to youth to include overseeing physical care, development of acceptable habits and attitudes, positive behavioral supports, crisis intervention, assistance with the upkeep of the physical environment, helping youth achieve mastery of identified goals and objectives and the timely and thorough completion of required documentation.

Core duties and responsibilities:

Staff Scheduling

· Manages work schedules and assignments

· Coordinate scheduling of direct care staff for program coverage while maintaining staffing expectations

· Secure staff to cover schedule vacancies, and maintain on-call responsibilities as needed

Supportive Supervision

· Take lead role and full responsibility in the absence of the Group Home Manager for overall program day-to-day function and participation of residents

· Orient new direct care staff to the program, and provide direction, encouragement, and training in the performance of their duties (New, direct care ITPs shall be scheduled for no less than 8 hours of “shadowing” prior to being scheduled in a direct care capacity.)

· Observes, coaches, and evaluates Youth Counselors in implementation of trained practices.

· Provides and documents no less than one face-to-face supervision for each Youth Counselor per month.

· Oversees and delegates the daily tasks related to the upkeep and maintenance of the home

Direct Care

Creates a Safe, Family-Style Environment

· Oversees and delegates the daily tasks related to the upkeep and maintenance of the home

· Responsible for health and safety of residents, including administration and documentation of medications

· Responsible for the active supervision and engagement of youth on and off-campus

· Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of the home, equipment, and supplies; reports any damage or problems in the home

· Schedules and teaches youth the importance of daily chores through support and guidance. This includes but is not limited to cleaning (including the kitchen sink), laundry, and kitchen duties

· Prepare meals as necessary, including involving and guiding youth in the meal preparation process.

· Works collaboratively with other Group Home staff, including other youth counselors, supervisors and group home managers.

Ensures Therapeutic Treatment

· Provide a therapeutic, family-style treatment environment for youth according to the model and standards developed in the Teaching-Family Model.

· Engage with the youth according to the standards of the Teaching-Family Model

· Teach social and life skills using trained techniques and the motivation system; works as a part of the team to individualize interventions for youth

· Intervene in crises and provides behavioral support (including restraints, when warranted), in a trauma-informed manner

Other

· Have oversight over budget and coordinate all household purchases, including groceries.

· Ensures program is fully compliant with regulations as well as VHBG policies and procedures

· Required to work a two week rotating schedules with alternating evening and weekend hours
