JOB DESCRIPTION

The Applications Engineer I assists with the system and device level installation and programming of low voltage solutions including network, security and/or audio-visual systems. This position requires a broad technical understanding of troubleshooting, service, and repair of surveillance, access control, audio/visual systems, and associated technologies.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Works closely with Project Managers, Project Foreman, and Engineering leads, this role assists in the coordination of the technical aspects of specific projects under the general supervision of Engineering leadership.
  • May supervise workers in installation, configuration, testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of low voltage systems and equipment which may include surveillance systems, access control system, and/or audio/visual systems.
  • Reads basic blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures and/or repair equipment utilizing knowledge of low voltage hardware and software and using standard test instruments and hand tools.
  • Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance and identify malfunctions.
  • Escalates and consults with engineering and project personnel to resolve unusual problems in system configuration, installation, operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
  • May advise Engineering management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements.
  • Assists with technical aspects of projects with varying timelines and budgets including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support etc.
  • Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties and assists in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in 2 or more of the following low voltage areas: audio visual systems, physical security systems, access control systems, infrastructure cabling
  • Prefer candidate who has a strong physical security background.
  • Utilize test equipment including a Fluke tester, meter or OTDR and/or other devices.
  • Familiarity with industry tools and equipment and their use
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understand troubleshooting philosophies and procedures.
  • Understand relay logic and troubleshooting.

Skill Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work overtime as required by construction/service schedules.
  • On-Call capable for support of 24/7 Client SLAs and/or Emergencies
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%
  • Computer literate and competent communicator
  • Ability to handle physical workload and lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk, sit, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have a clean driving record and current Arizona Driver’s license.
