Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe VB.NET Database Developer is responsible for writing, maintaining, and debugging .NET applications using SQL server and VB.NET.
Essential Job Functions
  • Writes clean, scalable code using VB.NET; revises, updates, refactors, and debugs code
  • Designs and develops databases using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Prepares and maintains code for various .NET applications and resolves any defects in systems
  • Utilizes established development tools, guidelines, and conventions including primarily SQL Server and VB.NET, 3rd party API connectivity and possibly other technologies like, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and C#
  • Creates reports using SSRS
  • Enhances existing systems by analyzing business objectives, preparing an action plan, and identifying areas for modification and improvement
  • Investigates and develops skills in new technologies
  • Collaborates with internal teams to produce software design and architecture
  • Monitors activities of system and provides required support; provides application support for staff
  • Migrates legacy (Access VBA) software to new VB.NET applications
  • Develops documentation for design and debugging processes
  • Required to work auction weekends (approximately 5 per year)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience developing Windows forms applications using VB.NET
  • Capability to write queries and procedures using Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong background in object oriented development techniques
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently, depending on project scope
  • Proficiency with writing Web Services, Windows services and custom controls helpful
  • Skilled in  MySQL, MS Access forms, VBA, and concurrent development source control (Git) a plus
Education and Experience
  • Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent programming experience
  • 3 years of design and/or development experience with VB.NET, Windows Forms and SQL Server in an n-tier architecture
