Job DescriptionJob Description

Fitzgerald Monroe Flynn PC is seeking a Paralegal to join its growing practice and provide legal support throughout the litigation process. This is a crucial on-site, regular business hours position that requires close coordination with attorneys, great attention to detail, and an interest in social justice. We provide excellent professional development in a friendly environment.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in drafting and finalizing court and other legal documents including formatting, inserting tables of contents and authorities, cite checking, and proofreading
  • Assist attorneys in conducting legal and factual research and investigation
  • Monitor case dockets and calendar case deadlines
  • File complaints, motions, and other documents in state and federal courts
  • Manage case files, electronic documents, and databases
  • Assist with case preparation, including organizing and assisting in document reviews; helping to prepare for depositions; preparing exhibits, witness lists, and trial binders; and participating in other discovery
  • Prepare and deliver courtesy copies and manually filed legal documents
  • Assist with client and class member intake and communication
  • Occasionally answer phone calls and direct inquiries to the appropriate person

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program
  • Minimum of 4 years of civil litigation paralegal experience
  • Strong understanding of California and federal civil procedure and litigation practices
  • Demonstrated proficiency in legal research tools, especially Westlaw and LexisNexis
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Valid Driver’s License and standing
  • Excellent references

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual Salary of $70,000 to $80,000 depending on experience
  • Health and dental; employer pays 50% of employee plans and 25% for dependents & spouses
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Eligible to participate in additional Profit Sharing and Defined Benefit retirement plans
  • Between 10 and 20 days (i.e., two and four weeks) paid vacation based on tenure
  • Certain benefits subject to probationary period
