The Village of Indian Head Park is looking for Public Works Maintenance Workers to join our team

We have both full-time and part-time positions available.

JOB SUMMARY

Public works maintenance workers perform a variety of manual, semi-skilled, and skilled maintenance tasks for municipal facilities and systems, including water, parks, or streets, and buildings. Maintenance workers may be assigned different specific tasks daily. The position reports to the Public Works Crew Leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • This position is responsible for performing indoor and outdoor maintenance and repair of Village Buildings and tasks related to the construction, operation, care and maintenance of the Village’s infrastructure and facilities such as minor repairs and carpentry, painting, gutter and downspout clearing, cleaning facilities for events

  • Provide general grounds and tree maintenance, flood control, clearing storm damage and other related duties as assigned

  • Perform routine tasks requiring the use of acquired skills and knowledge

  • Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools

  • Assignments may involve working with members of a crew or working independently

  • Additional responsibilities include snow removal and the ability to work overtime, weekends and be on call 24/ 7 on a rotating basis

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT

  • Heavy equipment: Trucks, trailers, snow plows, backhoes, pay loaders, tractors, and chainsaws

  • Hand and power tools: Shovels, rakes, brooms, and other tools

  • Materials: Concrete, bituminous mixtures, asphalt, gravel, and paving material

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED required

  • 1-2 years experience in grounds maintenance, streets repair, construction, maintenance or related field required

  • Commercial Driver’s License (Class B CDL) or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire

  • Ability to use applicable hand tools, machinery and equipment related to the position, lift or move a minimum of 80 lbs

  • Ability to tolerate working in an environment that may contain dirt, dust, noise, unpleasant fumes/orders, vibration, poor lighting, confined spaces, allergens, wetness, humidity, extreme heat and/or cold
