Title:   Director of Development

Report to:   Executive Director

Job Description

This self-motivated result driven development professional will be responsible for directing the organization’s annual and long-term development goals. This includes identifying, cultivating and stewarding individual, corporate, and foundation donors as well as planning, overseeing major fundraiser events, writing grant proposals, developing annual fundraising plans and strategies and overseeing marketing, communications and social media. This person is also responsible for interacting with the Board of Directors and Development Advisory Committee members, and donors to meet the organization’s goals. The Development Director strives to create a culture of philanthropy at all levels of the organization.

Supervises and assigns work to the Development & Social Media Content Manager and the Development Coordinator.

Candidate must be comfortable working in a faith-based organization and promoting Christian Values.

Responsibilities:

General Duties

·         Create an annual fundraising plan in conjunction with the Executive Director.

·         Identify, cultivate, and steward individual, corporate, and foundation donors for the organization.

·         Report development progress to Executive Director and Board of Directors.

·         Oversee Development Department and Development Advisory Committee.

Annual Appeals

·         Plan multiple direct mail campaigns throughout the year including for general funding, and mission programs, as well as any special needs campaigns that may arise.

·         Includes concept development and writing.

·         Oversee online, social media and peer to peer fundraising conducted by the Development

·         & Social Media Content Manager.

Events

·         Oversee all aspects of fundraising events, including the Annual Golf Classic and Annual Friends of the Poor Walk, working closely with the Development Manager and Development Associate.

·         Solicit sponsorships, event packages, and journal ads.

·         Conduct Committee meetings collaborating with members both individually and as a group.

·         Liaison with event facility management.

·         Oversee day of logistics.

·         Travel occasionally for events, meetings, etc.

Donor Stewardship

·         Develop donor stewardship culture to welcome, retain and develop donors:

·         Regular phone calls and notes from Development Director, Executive Director or Board President with updates.

·         Revise, enhance and better communicate monthly donor program. Oversee the increased giving based on changes.

·         Continue to develop constituent stewardship programs.

Grant Writing

·         Write grant proposals to corporate, foundation and government funders and enhance grant outcomes by communicating with key contacts.

·         Complete interim and final reports for grantors.

Planned Giving

·         Develop Planned Giving Program.

·         Develop materials to promote and encourage Planned Giving as an option for donors.

·         Provide regular communications to the Conferences and to general constituents about planned giving options that support the local Conference as well as Central Council.

·         Implement programs to communicate Planned Giving. Upon the interest of prospective donors, arrange meetings to meet with key prospects to review options and opportunities.

 

External Communications & Community Outreach

·         Develop theme, write content and oversee production of annual report.

·         Oversee planning and production of organization video(s).

·         Contact local news publications pitching story ideas that increase awareness and visibility of the organization. Includes creation of news releases.

·         Represent the organization at various networking events, creating higher visibility and enhancing relations within the community.

·         Identify opportunities for community and business partnerships which could lead to new fundraising opportunities.

·         Ensure website is maintained and updated by the Development & Social Media Content Manager.

·         Oversee advertising for the Society and collaborate with the Director of Stores.

Internal Communications and Support

·         Provide support to the Vincentian volunteers in their conferences fundraising efforts.

·         Standardize the process and distribute in writing the materials to be distributed to Conferences for their own fundraising efforts. Ensure Conferences and Central Council are speaking with “one voice.”

·         Collaborate with Director of Vincentian Services on projects as appropriate

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years plus related experience working at a senior level.
