Job Details

The Manager of Spiritual Care is responsible for leading and supporting a broad range of professional spiritual care services to serve the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of care recipients and caregivers in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The Manager assures that Spiritual Care and the services of the professional chaplain caregivers are an integral part of the overall ministry. In consultation with the Director, the Manager is responsible for the recruitment, selection, assignments, scheduling, development, counseling and retention or termination of the chaplain caregivers, as well as any volunteers that may be associated with Pastoral Care. As a leader of the healthcare team, is directly responsible for department support of the mission and values, and for leading implementation of policies and procedures of the Department of Pastoral Care and of the facility in which they serve.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Develop and maintain department schedule and ensure that spiritual care is provided by qualified chaplains twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week.
* Monitor and evaluate the quality of the work of the department, with particular attention to best practices of professional chaplaincy and to appropriate documentation in the medical record.
* Assist each chaplain, and the department as a whole, to develop opportunities for ongoing education and formation, and provide education related to the best practices of professional chaplaincy.
* Recruit, select and develop chaplains, as well as any volunteers that may be associated with Spiritual Care.
* Collaborate with Human Resources to administer the department in accordance with established policies, procedures and compensation practices.
* Regularly attend leadership meetings at local ministry representing the services of the department and advocating for the integration of spiritual care services across the continuum of care.
* Promote collaboration and ongoing communication with local spiritual community professionals.
* Participate in budget development process and monitor expenses to assure operation within budget.
* Contributes to and consistently applies Catholic Health policies, procedures, and benefits to all customers and/or employees without discrimination.
* Employee conducts himself/herself in conformity with the HIPAA Compliance Program and applicable institutional policies and procedures for patient privacy. In addition, employee conducts himself/herself in conformity with the Catholic Health Security policies and procedures.

Position Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

* Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, or Spirituality from an appropriately accredited college or university.
* Chaplaincy Board Certification (preferred)
* Earn at least 18 graduate-level credits or equivalent in theology, divinity, religious studies, pastoral ministry, pastoral studies, or spirituality from an approved pastoral or permanent diaconate formation program, diocesan ministry training program, or professional ministry program.

High school diploma or equivalent.

* 3 years Chaplain
* 3 years Progressive responsibility for leadership functions

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Licenses/Certifications:

* Endorsed in accordance with the requirements of his/her faith/spiritual tradition for service as a professional chaplain. Failure to maintain endorsement will be grounds for immediate termination.
* Board Certified by one of these Spiritual Care organizations: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC); National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC); Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC); Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)' or the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice and Education (CASC).

Experience:

* Clinical Pastoral Education - 4 Units-accredited or approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), by programs that were accredited by the former United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Commission on Certification and Accreditation (USCCB/CCA), or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC/ACSS). Equivalency for one unit of CPE (two units in CASC) may be considered.
* Advanced training in ethical, religious, and spiritual dimensions of loss, illness and bereavement
* Management experience, 1-year Medical Setting

* Strong sense of pastoral identity and a commitment to act with integrity
* Clear understanding of the ethical, spiritual and legal issues that routinely arise in the practice of medicine.
* Catholic context: Familiar with the practices and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church, the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, and the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and able to incorporate knowledge of these traditions and practices into the leadership of the department.
* Minister effectively in highly stressful situations
* Communicate effectively in both verbal and written interactions.
* Facilitate conferences between parties who are in disagreement.
* Provide spiritual care and counsel that respects diversity and differences including, but not limited to culture, gender, and sexual orientation and spiritual/religious practices, as outlined by New York State Law and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
* Collaborate with leaders both internal and external to the organization

Experience:

* 3 years Chaplain
* 3 years Progressive responsibility for leadership functions
* At least two years related experience required.
* Current human resources and/or compensation credentials or certification preferred.

Salary Range

USD $70,000.00 - USD $75,000.00 /Yr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
