Provides consumer services by implementing creative, social, recreational, educational programs under the direction of the Activities Director.

Specific Duties:

  • Conduct and oversee varying activities that meet different needs and functional levels of consumers.
  • Assist in toileting by maintaining toileting schedule throughout the day, as well as keeping the bathrooms clean and in working order.
  • Report observations of consumer’s performance, behaviors, and actions and any changes to the Activities Director.
  • Assist in serving lunch to the consumers, as well as assisting any consumers who needs help with tray set-up and/or feeding.
  • Motivate consumers to attend all activities and programs.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of each consumer’s and his/her specific needs.
  • Assist with loading and unloading consumers’ to/from the van each morning and afternoon.
  • Accompany consumers on appointments and outings.
  • Wipe tables and chairs off after each meal.
  • Provide approved therapy, sensory stimulation and reality orientation as instructed by the Activities Director and Program Director.
  • Provide one-on-one activities as directed by the Activities Director and Program Director.
  • Follow through Activities Director’s recommendations in conducting recreation activities in community.
  • Arrange chairs, tables, and sporting or exercise equipment in designated rooms or areas of scheduled group activities.
  • Welcome all visitors and refer them to their immediate supervisor.
  • Explain to clients the activity schedule for the day and upcoming events.
  • Conduct all activities with assigned group such as: Arts and crafts; Sports; Games; Music; Drama; Social recreation; and Hobbies.
  • Cooperate with other staff members and work together as a team regarding all activities.
  • Assist in conducting community wide events while working with outside groups to determine recreation interest and needs of person with mental illness.
  • Works close under the supervision of the Activities Director, cooperates with all personnel.
  • Assist with loading and unloading the participant’s to/from the van each morning and afternoon. Always make sure that the participants get inside the home safely.
  • Maintain security for passengers at all times by using wheelchair locks, safety belts, and any other measures and recommend ideas for safely transporting in a vehicle.
  • Maintain the mechanical operating condition of the van i.e. check tires, tire pressure, brakes, oil, water and windshield fluids and replace as necessary.
  • Walk around the van to observe any visual defects and check the operating systems – brakes, horn, windshield wipers, lights, first-aid kits, emergency flashers, and door opening devices before beginning to transport.
  • Maintain the van in a clean and professional manner.
  • Report any suspected mechanical problems to the Program Director.
  • All other duties as assigned.
