Job Summary:

Provides leadership for Day Treatment’s occupational therapy services. Supervises the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant. Provides therapy to assigned students on the caseload, as well as attend the CSE Meetings of students on caseload. The therapy is provided in accordance with the goals and objectives on the students’ individual educational plan/ treatment plan. OT services are provided within the context of the student’s treatment plan and the Day Treatment Program.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervision:
    1. Provides supervision over the work of Occupational therapy staff.
    2. Documents quarterly supervision of Occupational Therapy work.
    3. Provides insight to the Principal around performance evaluations on Occupational Therapy staff.
    4. Consults with the Principal regarding appropriate OT and program issues.
  • Evaluations:
    1. Performs standardized and non-standardized assessments of students assigned to the caseload.
    2. The Supervisor of OT continually assesses progress of students in daily work and notes this progress in the IEP.
    3. Completes all new requested OT Therapy evaluations and screenings. .
  • Record Keeping:
    1. Initial assessments, annual assessments, and progress reports, daily plans and logging, weekly notes in the progress section of the client record, annual I.E.P. and updating at three month intervals, discharge summaries.
    2. Signs off on all reevaluation assessments and daily notes completed by the COTA
    3. Complete quarterly Medicaid notes on case load and sign off on COTA’s quarterly Medicaid notes.
  • Consulting:
    1. Consults with classroom teachers regularly for each assigned student in order to maximize coordination of student activity.

  • Team Membership:
    1. As a member of the treatment team, the Supervisor of OT helps to plan treatment modalities for the student and shares information with other team members regarding the child’s functioning in the OT program. This is accomplished through informal communication and attendance at team meetings and planning conferences. It is realized that the Supervisor of OT cannot attend every meeting because of therapy scheduling. Priorities must be set and representation made through written notes when attendance is not possible.

  • Committee Membership:
    1. The Supervisor of OT is expected to become an active committee member. Possible committees include School Improvement, and School Spirit.

  • Professional Membership:
    1. Is responsible for participating in planned in-service and case discussion within the agency.
    2. Engage in seminars or lectures in the community which would lead to professional growth.
    3. At times the Supervisor of OT may be called on to present in- service seminars within the agency.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or Clinical Supervisor.

Organizational Relationships:

  • Functions under the supervision of the Principal.
  • Responsible for supervising the work of Occupational Therapy staff, students and volunteers assigned to the program.
  • Is a member of the treatment team for assigned students.

Position Specifications:

  • BS in Occupational Therapy; temporary NYS Certification for Occupational Therapy, required.
  • MS in Occupational Therapy; permanent NYS Certification for Occupational Therapy, preferred.
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), preferred.
  • A minimum of two years’ full-time experience in Occupational Therapy.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting.

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of people, including those who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and functional levels.
  • Ability to follow, maintain and carry out the guidelines of the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Training model followed by all Direct Care staff.
  • Ability to carry out written documentation as required by St. Catherine’s policy and as required by regulating agencies
  • Diagnose, assess, and treat children utilizing a variety of professionally sanctioned methods.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain state of the art information regarding occupational therapy issues especially as they relate to children who exhibit significant emotional, behavioral and interpersonal challenges, mental health diagnoses and trauma history.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, represent and carry out the mission, values, philosophy and policies of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.
  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision making model as a team member.
  • Ability to organize and effectively manage in a timely fashion, the varied tasks of the position.
  • Ability to perform well under crisis conditions.
  • The Supervisor of OT will have full and complete access to client Protected Health Information (PHI) in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • The ability to establish a respectful relationship with students to help them gain skills and confidence.
  • The capacity to maintain a helping role and to intervene appropriately to meet service goals.
  • The ability to set appropriate limits.
