Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Principal and Assistant Principals, the Early Childhood Teacher will provide a
nurturing and supportive environment that fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of young
children with special needs. This role involves planning, implementing, and assessing students’ Individual Educational
Plans (IEPs) to continually support and monitor each student’s progress. You will differentiate instruction to meet the
needs of all students while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and maintaining open communication with
families.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
1. Develop and implement a curriculum to meet the unique needs of the students.
2. Familiar and comfortable implementing play-based learning.
3. Submit individualized and whole-group lesson plans weekly.
4. Create a positive and nurturing environment that makes the students feel safe.
5. Collaborate with team specialists to ensure each child is working toward their
personal goals.
6. Communicate with parents regularly to share student growth and classroom
observations.
7. Maintain student’s individualized education plans (IEPs), behavioral plans, and
accurate data to monitor student progress.
8. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask and implement changes
when necessary.
9. Patient and comfortable advocating for students’ needs regularly.
10. Attend and actively participate in professional growth opportunities to stay
updated with best practices.
11. Share your passion for learning with your students while creating a positive
learning environment that supports all students cognitively, emotionally, and physically.
Credentials, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
● Illinois State Teaching Certification
● Early Childhood Special Education Endorsement
● Preferred, at least three years working with preschool-age children with diverse learning exceptionalities:
speech and language concerns, autism, behavioral challenges, and developmental delays.
● Thorough skills and knowledge on strategies and techniques for working with students with emotional, and
behavioral challenges
● Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
