The Controller will provide leadership ensuring the integrity and accuracy of all finance activities including managing the monthly close, monthly financial reporting, accounts payable, job and product costing, and special projects. A successful Controller will maintain company accounting procedures in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. The ideal candidate will have experience as a Controller in a company selling products and services.


Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including Payables, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition; recommending improvements and efficiencies to support rapid company growth.
  • Lead the monthly close process and ensure all entries are timely and accurate.
  • Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis including analysis of general ledger activity and cash projections.
  • Contribute to the completion of income tax returns and audits with external tax consultants and auditors.
  • Prepare and file sales & use tax returns.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements; adhering to sound ethical standards.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Provide accounting policy orientation for new staff.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and potential areas for improvement.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Controller or in a similar role. Experience in a manufacturing, software, SaaS, and/or inventory environment required.
  • CPA preferred; Certified Public Accountant (8+ years of Controller experience if no CPA)
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and budgeting.
  • Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Experience with cash management and risk assessment.
  • Experience designing, initiating and implementing procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Experience with NetSuite ERP is a plus.
  • Attention to detail while working on multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Ability to motivate team members to produce quality results with tight timeframes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • A pitch in and do what it takes attitude.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines.
  • Desire for a fast-paced, dynamic, and quickly growing work environment.
  • Strong MS Office skill set, especially Excel.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.

  • Accounting: 5 years (Required)
  • Cost accounting: 1 year (Preferred)
