Position Overview:

The Lead Technician plays a pivotal role in training, supporting, and supervising branch technicians, ensuring efficient operations under the guidance of a Branch Operations Manager or Service Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing the preventive maintenance, repair, and installation of the rental fleet, providing critical direction to technicians to guarantee compliance with company safety standards and all federal and state regulations. The Lead Technician fosters a culture of teamwork, safety, and operational efficiency within the branch, serving as a key resource in maintaining high levels of performance and service.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with branch leadership to manage daily operations, supervising technicians involved in equipment repair, maintenance, and installation.
  • Assume the role of Service Manager in their absence, ensuring seamless operation and service delivery.
  • Handle service calls effectively, dispatching and providing support to on-call technicians as needed.
  • Conduct safety and DOT inspection audits, ensuring adherence to all regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain a commitment to exceptional customer service, addressing the needs of both internal and external clients.
  • Schedule and conduct pre-delivery calls with customers to ensure clarity and satisfaction.
  • Coordinate technician workflow and production needs to optimize fleet readiness and operational efficiency.
  • Take ownership of the condition and preparedness of the rental fleet, ensuring all equipment meets quality and safety standards.
  • Provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to technicians, ranging from onboarding to advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Efficiently assign and schedule work orders, focusing on priorities that enhance customer satisfaction and operational effectiveness.
  • Conduct cycle counts and assist with full inventory reconciliation to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Actively perform technician-related duties, including repair, installation, delivery, and maintenance of various equipment.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by training team members in safe practices and adhering to established safety programs, while promoting all safety standards.
  • Indirectly supervise a team of 1-20 technicians in the shop and execute supervisory responsibilities in alignment with Mobile Air & Power Rentals policies and all applicable laws.
  • Perform other duties as required by management to support branch operations and objectives.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience managing technical employees is preferred.
  • Proven success in financial management against measurable performance standards, with demonstrated leadership skills in managing an Operations Team.
  • Strong technical understanding of core Mobile Air & Power Rentals activities, including Electrical, Diesel, and Temperature Control, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with lean principles (such as 5S/6S) and process improvement methodologies is desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering teamwork and providing outstanding customer service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products or similar software; familiarity with MRP or Rental software is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs. using safe lifting practices.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug test to operate company vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) are mandatory.
  • Successfully pass a background check

Work Schedule:

This position may require working a rotating on-call schedule and being available for evenings, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons. Travel may also be necessary. Overtime and double-time pay rates apply for applicable hours worked.
