MAAME, Inc. is seeking a experienced and compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Community-Based Doula. As a Doula, you will support pregnant individuals and their families throughout the prenatal, birthing, and postpartum periods. MAAME, Inc. is committed to providing culturally competent care to ensure our clients' physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Our Doulas focus on our clients' social determinants of health, social justice, and community engagement, recognizing the interconnectedness of these factors with maternal and infant health outcomes.

We are looking for Certified/Trained Doulas in the following service areas:

Durham
Wake
Orange
Johnston
Alamance
Guilford
Forsyth
Rockingham
Mecklenberg

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally sensitive and evidence-based doula support throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and infant care, acknowledging the intersecting identities and experiences of clients.

  • Establish trusting relationships with clients, offering personalized guidance on prenatal health, childbirth education, and parenting while honoring their autonomy and choices.

  • Offer continuous labor support to a minimum of two clients per month, ensuring individualized care during childbirth that respects clients' cultural practices and preferences while also addressing any social determinants of health impacting their well-being.

  • Collaborate with partner agencies to facilitate seamless service delivery, address systemic barriers, and build support networks for clients within marginalized communities, with a focus on addressing social determinants of health and promoting equity in birth and reproductive health.

  • Conduct screenings, prenatal education, and postpartum support within the scope of Community-Based Doula practice guidelines, with a commitment to addressing disparities and promoting health equity for all individuals.

  • Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards in all documentation and interactions, recognizing the importance of privacy and trust in reproductive healthcare, while also addressing any privacy concerns related to social determinants of health

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Document all client interactions accurately and comprehensively, including intake assessments and follow-up notes, with attention to each client's unique needs and experiences. Also, document any social determinants of health impacting their well-being.

  • Ensure timely reporting of grant requirements and input data into the designated Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This will facilitate data-driven decision-making and program evaluation while also highlighting any disparities related to the social determinants of health.

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma is a minimum, and the Doula Training Program/certification must be completed with a focus on intersectionality, birth and reproductive justice, and addressing social determinants of health.

  • Experience in birth work, lactation support, and early parenting, demonstrating a deep commitment to promoting equity and justice in birth and reproductive health.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse populations, respecting clients' autonomy and agency while also addressing any social determinants of health impacting their access to care and support.

  • Valid North Carolina State Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.
  • Engage with the community to advocate for intersectionality, birth, and reproductive justice, and address social determinants of health, amplifying the voices of marginalized individuals and communities in decision-making processes and policy advocacy.

  • Provide feedback to improve culturally responsive services. Attend local and out-of-state conferences to share knowledge, promote best practices, and advance the principles of intersectionality, birth justice, and reproductive justice. Advocate for policy changes that address social determinants of health and promote health equity.

Mental and Physical Abilities:

  • Interpersonal skills, teamwork, and discretion are essential, along with attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.

  • Physical demands include sitting, hearing, and manual dexterity; accommodations can be arranged for individuals with disabilities. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Work Location:

  • On-site at the office, birthing facilities, or client homes as needed.

COVID-19 Precautions:

  • Remote interview process, virtual meetings, and social distancing protocols in place.

  • Temperature screenings as needed and sanitization procedures to ensure staff and client safety while also addressing any social determinants of health impacting clients' well-being.
