The Mail Order Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications, maintaining medication inventory, and ensuring that pharmacy operations run smoothly and efficiently. This role is crucial for providing high-quality pharmacy services and ensuring patient satisfaction in a mail order pharmacy setting.
Critical Success Factors:
- Attention to Detail and Accuracy: Required to maintain utmost level of accuracy while processing prescriptions. The slightest error can be detrimental to the patient’s health. While processing prescriptions, paying attention to any allergies and drug intolerance is vital.
- Dependability and Reliability: Expected to demonstrate ethical behavior with emphasis on confidentiality, realization of professional liability and importance of following processes.
- Effective Communication: Must be an empathetic and compassionate listener. As a member of the healthcare team, you should be able to communicate with tact and diplomacy. You should be friendly and interactive with patients and other members of the team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:
· Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications accurately and efficiently.
· Label and package medications for mail order distribution.
· Ensure that all prescriptions are filled correctly and meet quality standards.
· Process prescription orders received through the mail order system.
· Verify patient information and prescription details for accuracy.
· Monitor and maintain medication inventory levels.
· Order medications and supplies as needed to ensure adequate stock.
· Conduct regular inventory checks and assist with inventory audits.
· Input prescription data into the pharmacy information system.
· Provide excellent customer service to patients and healthcare providers.
· Address patient inquiries and concerns related to medication orders.
· Assist with resolving issues related to delayed or incorrect orders.
· Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to pharmacy practice.
· Maintain accurate and complete records of all prescription orders and transactions.
· Assist with maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient information.
· Participate in quality assurance programs to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of pharmacy services.
· Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements.
· Report any medication errors or discrepancies to the supervising pharmacist.
· Assist pharmacists with administrative tasks as needed.
· Help maintain a clean and organized pharmacy work area.
· Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications & Education Requirements:
To perform the job successfully, an individual must have the following:
· High School diploma or equivalent.
· 2+ years of experience in retail or mail order pharmacy.
· Active Pharmacy Technician license or certification as required by state law.
· Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
· Pharmacy Technician Board Certification is a plus.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Excellent communication and customer service skills.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices.
· Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and technology.
Travel Required:
- Up to 5% travel
Working Conditions / Physical Demands:
· Utilize a computer, calculator, and phone.
· May involve occasional evening or weekend work to meet deadlines or address urgent issues.
· Requires standing for extended periods and some physical activities, such as lifting and carrying medication supplies.
· May be required to lift items up to 25 lbs. on occasion.
