Responsibilities

Responsible for verifying patient's insurance information and obtaining authorization prior to scheduled visits in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, internal standards and procedures, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Ensures active insurance coverage
  • Locate, and verify current insurance and demographic information for patient and/or guarantor and update in system in efforts to support proper bill release
  • Resolves any issues with coverage
  • Interpret coverage limitations and discuss with patients and providers
  • Document financial and pre-certification information according to defined process in a timely manner.
  • Complete insurance verification on each patient and call patient back if unable to obtain verification with insurance carrier
  • Set up payment arrangements when applicable
  • Multi-tasking and completing assigned tasks daily
  • Perform in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in healthcare insurance verification
  • Experience with an EHR (Epic preferred)
  • Knowledge of the content, intent and application of HIPAA.
  • Knowledge of insurance industry and basic medical terminology/abbreviations preferred.
  • Demonstrated positive professional customer service in all patient, staff, and visitor contacts.
  • Clear and effective communication skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office software.
  • Possesses a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
  • A team player who handles multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Maintains a positive, caring attitude towards patients.
