About the job Sr. Software Engineer (Remote)
As one of the two Senior Software Engineers we are hiring now for the SolarApp Foundation, you'll be founding members of our engineering organization. You'll work closely with the CTO, the NREL team and our community of solar installers, municipalities and clean energy experts as we build products that revolutionize the way clean energy equipment is installed in the US, accelerating the nation's pathway to electrification.
You'll be spending your days diving deep into exciting engineering challenges across the entire technology stack. You'll develop new APIs to provide seamless integrations with solar installers, designers and municipalities. You'll design and build consumer grade interfaces to simplify the complex process of submitting permits for solar panels. You'll help us optimize our AWS infrastructure for resiliency and scalability and much more.
You'll own large swaths of our product from technical architecture to implementation to iteration. You'll work directly with experts in installation, building codes and standards to help ensure that we apply strong product engineering principles and you'll be empowered to help us determine what we build, not just how we build it.
This role is a good fit if you're a highly skilled engineer who wants to channel your talents toward social good as part of a high-performing, vibrant, & driven team. Our current tech stack deploys on Amazon Web Services using: PHP, Laravel, Postgres, NGINX, Redis, and javascript. Our application is modular and leverages a variety of web services and APIs. A successful candidate is comfortable working with these technologies, though may not have direct familiarity with all.
Qualifications
- You have over 5 years of experience as a software engineer building SaaS products.
- You love talking to stakeholders, both internal and external, to help understand the problem landscape. You want to help shape product decisions.
- You're comfortable working across the entirety of the technology stack and expect to own features end to end - you can go from CSS to AWS and enjoy knowing all of the ins and outs of the products that you build.
- You have expertise in supporting production systems. You know how to read logs to quickly diagnose problems and know how to fix them
- You have deep experience in an MVC framework. We use Laravel; ideally you've working in Laravel or Ruby on Rails, Django, etc.
- You have strong opinions on how to build production-grade APIs, including things like versioning, documentation and more.

- You've worked in one of the domains we work closely with - either government technology or clean energy
- You have experience with electrical engineering. Our code compliance checks are grounded in electrical engineering principles
