Duties of an assistant principal are as follow, but not limited to:

Leadership and Administration:

  • Collaborate with the principal in setting the school's vision, goals, and objectives.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of school policies, procedures, and programs.

  • Provide instructional leadership by supporting and evaluating teachers and staff.

  • Help create a positive and inclusive school culture that promotes student success and well-being.

  • Support the principal in managing school resources, including budgets, facilities, and technology.

Student Discipline and Behavior Management:

  • Work with teachers, parents, and students to maintain a safe and respectful school environment.

  • Address disciplinary issues and enforce school policies, following appropriate procedures.

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote positive behavior and prevent conflicts.

  • Collaborate with teachers to implement effective behavior management practices.

Curriculum and Instruction

  • Support the implementation of curriculum standards and instructional practices.

  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and enhance instructional programs.

  • Monitor and evaluate teaching methods and student achievement data.

  • Provide professional development opportunities for teachers to improve their instructional skills.

Student Support and Development

  • Assist in identifying and addressing individual student needs, including academic, social, and emotional support.

  • Collaborate with counselors, support staff, and community resources to provide student services.

  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and provide support for students with special needs.

Parent and Community Engagement

  • Foster positive relationships with parents, guardians, and the wider community.

  • Communicate regularly with parents, providing updates on school activities and student progress.

  • Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to enhance educational opportunities for students.

School Safety and Emergency Preparedness

  • Work with the principal to develop and implement safety procedures and emergency plans.

  • Conduct safety drills and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or crisis situations.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Professional Educator's License in school administration

  • Illinois Principal’s License (Type 75) preferred

  • Three years of administrative or supervisory experience is preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
