MATERIAL HANDLER

The duties of Material Handler provide the first step for the completion of the total door package before shipment to the
customer, ensuring the highest quality and care is taken to exceed customer expectations and satisfaction.  The employee
must use care in selecting the appropriate color, length, and materials for the individual order.  Training will be provided in
each step process whenever practical.  Upon completion of step training, employees must demonstrate competence in
performing the job duties.  Individual training documents will be maintained in the employee’s work history records.
 
Major Areas of Responsibility
• Review layout and locate correct materials
• Visually inspect material for dents, dings and heavy scratches.
• Mark any areas of an extrusion that is non-conformant.
• Notify Quality of line lead/supervisor if questionable material is found.
• Stack material for FOM, neatly on a cart and ensure paperwork is with the correct material.
• Reading and understanding the specifics of the job order instructions for individual customer orders.
• Pulling and staging the correct materials and quantity of materials for individual customer orders.
• Ensuring that work instructions are followed precisely to successfully complete the door package.
• Reading pick sheets, layouts and processes per individual customer orders.
• Understanding daily production goals and work at a pace that meets or exceeds those requirements.
• Inspecting raw materials to ensure no pre-existing damage or scratches due to defective incoming materials prior to
staging.
• Rigging experience is required.

 


 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• The ability to use basic mathematics including fractions for measuring and calculating lengths and widths of materials.  
• Detailed oriented using fine visual and manual skills.
• The ability to use basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and drills.
• The ability work in a fast-paced environment for an extended period of time.
• The ability to read and understand layouts, shop orders and process control documents.
• The ability to drive a forklift (sit-down and stand-up)
 
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED required.
