The Director of Quality will lead all quality management activities.  The quality function is paramount to our success in growing the business in the luxury cabinet segment.  This role will serve as the visible champion of quality across the organization and will communicate on a regular basis with all areas of the business including operations, supply chain, order processing, the sales team, and our customers.  The position will design and develop a total quality management system to incorporate quality across the business and use analytical quality tools including Six Sigma and FMEA.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop overall quality strategy / vision for the company.
  • Improve warranty claim performance to our customers from current level of 2% of sales to under 1%.
  • Improve internal quality performance (rework, remake & missing) from current level of $35 per cabinet to under $20 per cabinet.
  • Improve first pass yield in key areas of the plant operations – improve finishing first pass yield from 85% to 95% working with the operations team, our finish material supplier and our finish equipment suppliers.
  • Develop effective process to capture warranty and internal quality performance date – daily report with sufficient information to understand the problems and the root cause.
  • Design corrective actions for the top 5 issues on both warranty and internal quality.  Assign owners, due date and manage the process to ensure completion of corrective actions and audit results to evaluate if they are effective.  If not effective, design new solutions.
  • Develop clear metrics and key performance indicators to gauge performance on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis.
  • Meet regularly with production team to share performance on their respective functions on warranty performance and first-pass yield.
  • Develop clear specifications for our products to our customers.  Partner with sales and marketing to calibrate our specs to the needs of the marketplace.  Post boards on the production floor to facilitate understanding of the specs by production area.
  • Manage the quality team including the Quality Manager and the inspectors.  Set objectives for the team and calibrate with them regularly.
  • Develop incoming inspection process to manage supplier raw material.  Work with the receiving team and the purchasing team to develop a clear game-plan on how to address non-conforming material.
  • Work with the logistics team to promote optimal delivery model and packaging to deliver products without damage and without losing items.  Incorporate scanning technology to scan items onto trucks and off of trucks at delivery points for effective tracking.  Incorporate photos and videos to provide audit information for internal teams and for customers.
  • Develop tools on the production floor to improve quality management including go / no-go gauges and jigs to minimize the potential of passing items that do not meet our quality standards.
  • Partner with our supply base to find better materials and improved processes to elevate quality across our business.
  • Evaluate new equipment and tools to improve quality on the production floor.  Partner with maintenance team to ensure that the current machines are properly maintained to ensure consistent performance and quality.
  • Develop Total Quality Management System to rollout across the organization.
  • Utilize quality management tools and train the teams to incorporate in their activities (Six Sigma, FMEA, PPAP).
  • Publish monthly quality report for Revive leadership team showing current status of quality management, quality metrics and future plans.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in quality management for a manufacturing business.  Experience managing multi-site operation is a plus.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a management role overseeing a team and a function.
  • Experience with quality management tools including Six Sigma, FMEA, PPAP, etc.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.  Ability to communication effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational development skills.  Ability to motivate and develop team.
  • Strong business knowledge including strategy formation and deployment.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence others effectively.
