Southern Flow, Inc. has a great opportunity for a Controls Applications Engineer to join our growing team in Alpharetta, GA. This position is responsible for programming the control system PLC and HMIs (Human Machine Interface) for each of our projects. The person in this position would coordinate the program design with the engineering team, sales team, as well as the client. This person will also be involved in the factory acceptance testing of the system prior to delivery to the project site. At times this person will travel to the project site to aid in the commissioning of the controls system. Southern Flow is a systems integrator specializing in the water and wastewater industry that has a proven track record of over 29 years of experience. The individual would enjoy a stable work environment, challenging assignments, competitive compensation, great benefits, and a team-oriented environment. This position is open to both entry level experience as well as those with 2+ years experience.

Here's what you'll need:

- BS degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics engineer, or electrical engineering, or equivalent experience in the industry

- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%

- Excellent attention to detail

- Ability to stay organized and communicate with the larger engineering team

- A basic love and desire to work in a programming and development environment

Ideally you'd also have:

- Experience with HMI platforms: VTScada, Wonderware, Proficy iFIX, FactoryTalk, Citect, etc.

- Familiarity with PLCs and basic programming practices

- Ability to read project drawings and specifications to determine project requirements

- Experience with 3DSMax, Blender, and GIMP to develop custom graphics and scenes is ideal

- Experience with different industrial communication protocols including Ethernet IP, Modbus RTU & TCP, Devicenet, Profinet, etc.

- Networking experience and familiarity with basic PC networking principles

 

Responsibilities

- Engage with the project engineering team to determine HMI application requirements, and develop the application using SFI standards and procedures

- Work with clients, engineers, and contractors to provide updates and coordinate the final HMI application to their specification

- Collaborate with PLC programmers to coordinate IO lists, HMI screen layouts, and protocol requirements.

- Develop custom PLC ladder logic for control panel PLCs based on IO lists and control strategies

- Develop HMI screens in 2D or 3D format to meet project specifications

- Render 3D graphic animations as required by project

- Develop HMI databases to include IO, trending, historical data, alarming, and event logging

- Select computer hardware based on project and software requirements

- Train owners on operation of new HMI applications

- Perform onsite commissioning and troubleshooting of new installations
