Summary: This position supports the Operation and Production Departments objectives by keeping production equipment operating efficiently. This position ensures company facilities are maintained to company standards. Manage the maintenance/mechanics team in the food manufacturing industry who maintains equipment and machinery in a safe, working order. Completes scheduled maintenance projects, conducts preventative maintenance, troubleshoots, and responds to equipment and machine problems with a high sense of urgency. Maintains, modifies, and completes set-ups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize all resources (personnel & financial) to ensure the plant operates at maximum equipment utilization and efficiency.

  • Tenaciously address all unplanned site downtime events in order to return the site to “safe, reliable operations” as soon as feasible.

  • Provide direct supervision and develop all members of the Maintenance department.

  • Create and establish controls to manage KPIs for maintenance/facility activities to monitor and improve performance.

  • Manage site spares, storage, and critical spare program.

  • Actively identify gaps in site maintenance ability systems and systematically work to close them.

  • Site knowledge leader on Equipment & Parts specification.

  • Establish site criteria and/or Part/Equipment standards and manage site compliance to these standards.

  • Schedule and manage all pre-determined Plant shutdowns, Work directly with Supply Chain Lead and Production Manager.

  • Scheduling of maintenance/mechanics and ensuring complete coverage.

  • Directs the analysis of mechanical and operational problems on plant equipment, overseeing the planning and implementation of corrective action.

  • Oversees the scheduling of preventive maintenance checks and inspection of plant equipment ensuring there are no disruptions to the production schedule.

  • Develops, maintains and reports required operational information to management.

  • Analyzes and records the cause of production delays on daily production report.

  • Ensures that plant facilities and grounds are maintained in accordance with relevant regulations, company standards and fiscal consideration.

  • Prepares major equipment bids, approves purchase of new equipment as appropriate.

  • May have responsibility for plant safety including arranging and coordinating annual fire safety inspections with local fire departments; arranging and coordinating internal safety inspections; and implementing solutions to identified safety deficiencies.

  • Direct maintenance team and assists with machine setup, training.

  • Supervise the daily, weekly and monthly preventative maintenance inspections.

  • Conducts safety compliance inspections and maintains records of the production equipment.

  • Performs and instructs personnel in equipment start-up procedures and machine operation.

  • Purchase service of components used in the repair or preventative maintenance or equipment and facilities.

  • Analyzes equipment failures, determines cause(s) and makes necessary adjustments or repairs.

  • Seek new technologies and automation opportunities in lowering the overall cost of manufacturing.

  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance of the facility, as needed.

  • Plan, manage, and adjust the daily workload and staffing to minimize unplanned overtime.

Qualifications to perform this job successfully:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisor/management role.

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, electronics (PLC), hydraulics, heating ventilation, air conditioning, carpentry, welding, machining, and fabricating.

  • Staff management.

  • Workload planning.

  • Predictive Maintenance Technologies including (infrared, ultrasonic, vibration analysis, etc.

  • Monitor plant/equipment trends to ensure best possible operation and reduction of planned/unplanned downtime.

  • Propose and monitor key performance indicators in accordance with the Best Maintenance Practices.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the cost drivers of Maintenance in manufacturing operations.

  • Fluency in English – speak, read, and write.

  • Ability to use the following: Excel, Outlook, Internet, and keyboard & mouse
