The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota, is seeking an Assistant Professor/Doctoral Capstone Coordinator to join our developing entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program. The position of Assistant Professor /Doctoral Capstone Coordinator (DCC) requires an individual who can provide excellence in teaching, connecting with both students and community partners.

The DCC is a full-time, 11-month tenure-track core faculty position with reassigned administrative time for the management and administration of the doctoral capstone program. The DCC has standard professional responsibilities in teaching and advising, along with service and professional development all in alignment with the mission and philosophy of developing an entry-level Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) Program. The position has a January 2025 start date. This is an in-person position.

Responsibilities of the Doctoral Capstone Coordinator:

  • Develop and refine the doctoral capstone education program to ensure comprehensive integration of scope and content into the OTD curricular design.

  • Coordinate, manage, and comply with the doctoral capstone requirements of Standards Section D.1.0 set forth by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).

  • Ensure that the doctoral capstone is an integral part of the program’s curricular design and accurately reflects the sequence and scope of the content in the curriculum.

  • Create procedures to guide OTD capstone experiences.

  • Establish and manage protocols for affiliation agreements with doctoral capstone experience sites.

  • Establish and continually expand capstone sites, ensuring that each doctoral capstone experience is designed through collaboration of the faculty and student, and provided in setting(s) consistent with the program’s curriculum design and the mission of the Department and the College.

  • Develop individualized student and site specific objectives and plans for supervision, formal evaluation mechanism for objective assessment of the student’s performance during the capstone experience, methods for monitoring student progress, and assessment for ensuring completion of the doctoral capstone experience.

  • Support the development of capstone experiences that promote in-depth knowledge in the designated areas of interest, including clinical practice skills, research skills, administration, leadership, program and policy development, advocacy, education, and theory development.

  • Collaborate with the Program Director and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator to design, implement, and evaluate good academic philosophy and practice in the Doctoral Capstone projects.

  • Collaborate with students, capstone sites, and faculty mentors to evaluate student performance and their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences to show progression within the curriculum.

  • Teaching within the occupational therapy curriculum and developing course materials, including writing course syllabi and developing and implementing appropriate instructional methods.

  • Advising doctoral occupational therapy students within the Program and for capstone experiences.

  • Participation in college, department, and community service activities.

  • Attends department events, including student orientation and commencement exercises.

  • Engages in scholarly activity and maintains an active professional development plan and scholarly (research) agenda as relevant to capstone education, the DCC position, and the Program’s Scholarly Agenda.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned clinical or post-professional doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field (PhD, OTD, DrOT, DSc, EdD, ScD) awarded by an institution accredited by a regional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) .

  • Licensed occupational therapist who is licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Minnesota.

  • Minimum of 2 years documented experience as an occupational therapist.

  • Certified with National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

  • Prior experience as a DCC, capstone site mentor, capstone faculty mentor, or fieldwork educator in clinical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in occupational therapy education is preferred.

  • Documented scholarship (e.g., scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning) is preferred.

  • Understanding the role of care teams and models including occupational therapy assistant to support interprofessional practice.

  • Knowledge in the use of databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing; experience with assembling data for compliance reports.
